3 amazing benefits of online therapy vs traditional therapy

Online therapy is a tool that I give major credit to in my mental health journey.

I promise you, I would not be writing this blog post without having done online counseling many years ago.

I was too depressed and anxious to actually start a blog and too self-conscious to put myself out there.

Truth is having a healthy body but an unhealthy mind, so to speak, just won’t cut it y’all.

I’m nowhere close to where I want to be physically, financially, mentally, or spiritually.

But I do understand fully that all of these aspects work together to create the healthiest person possible.

Your mind is a big component of why you do what you do.

If you feel like everything is a huge struggle and you haven’t tried online counseling yet then I’m going to share with you 3 true benefits that online therapy has vs traditional therapy and which site helped me the most.

Please stay tuned because I really want you to move the needle from where you are now towards where you want to be.

Change is possible with online therapy and I’m going to show you just a glimpse of how it can help you!

Oh yeah, and this post contains affiliate links to great products that will help you in your health journey. I will get a commission if you decide to buy from these links but I’m only recommending products that I feel confident about.

What is online therapy?

So what is online therapy anyway?

Well, you know how normal therapy consists of you going to a little unfamiliar office speaking to an unfamiliar person?

Ok ok I’m being a little pejorative about in-person therapy but I don’t mean it because it’s awesome too.

But online therapy is similar to in-person therapy in that you also get to communicate with a real-life counselor except with online counseling it’s done virtually.

So you don’t have to drive anywhere. In fact, they may never even see your face.

This is something that may or may not be appealing but it’s something to keep in mind.

How do you communicate with the therapist?

There are several ways you can communicate with your therapist.

  • You might communicate via video format like Skype.
  • There’s also live chat which I’ve done many times.
  • You can also email your counselor based on whatever platform or plan you might have.
  • The platform I used had the ability for you to write journal prompts and my counselor would respond to whatever I wrote.
  • Another way for you to communicate with your counselor is by completing the assignments and having the therapist “grade” them.

So as you can see there are more ways to talk to your counselor through online therapy than there is with face to face.

Now we are going to talk about the benefits of online therapy

These are just 3 of the benefits of online therapy vs traditional therapy

1. It’s so blooming convenient

Speaking as a person who has engaged in both online and in-person therapy I can tell you that the convenience of online therapy is worth the price of admission.

Imagine the traffic jams you get to avoid (been there done that, took forever to get out).

Imagine not having to worry about being late.

I mean yes you have appointments with your online counselor (if you choose) but you can do it from your phone.

And if you’re like me then your phone is with you all the time.

Imagine not having to figure out where the therapist’s office is (I couldn’t tell if I was at the right building…and then she moved to a new location).

Imagine being able to pour your heart out to your therapist through email or a journal and having them respond to you with a new perspective.

It’s such a blessing to not be dependent on location when it comes to getting the mental health help that you need. It’s truly amazing.

 2. Online therapy is cost-effective

The price for online therapy is so much cheaper than the price for in-person therapy.

Face to face therapy can cost sometimes as much as $250 per hour.

So getting an hour of therapy per week for a month would be $1000.

In fact, this is one of the reasons I was drawn to online therapy because in-person therapy was cost-prohibitive for me.

The online therapy program I did was online-therapy.com and it currently costs $31.95 per week which makes it $127.50.

We will talk about online-therapy.com a little bit later.

But just think of the savings of in-person vs online.

Because the price is so much less, I was able to get the help that I desperately needed at the time.

3) Online therapy is easier mentally

Ok, so what do I mean by online therapy being easier mentally?

At the time when I was contemplating going to therapy, as much as I knew I needed, I could stomach the thought of going to a person in real life and telling them all of my problems.

Maybe I was just too stubborn to do it but mentally I wasn’t ready for traditional counseling.

So I searched Google to see if there was a way to do therapy online.

I truly didn’t know if that was a possibility back in 2009.

Even though doing online therapy was also something I dreaded, I could handle online therapy more than going to an office and talking to someone I didn’t know.

Maybe it was the stigma.

My depression and anxiety were too overwhelming to ignore but my stubbornness wouldn’t allow me to do it the traditional way.

Online therapy was a good compromise between getting in-person therapy and getting no help at all.

I hope that all made sense.

Basically online therapy didn’t seem as scary or emotional as going to an office with a counselor.

(Please note that I did eventually go to an in-person counselor as well but online therapy was my first step to improving my mental health).

Bonus Benefit: You can try online therapy for free.

So another benefit of online therapy vs traditional therapy is that you can try it free.

I will say that I was fortunate enough to find a face to face therapist who did free 30-minute consultation.

But after that, you had to pay full price.

Being able to do a free consultation with her was great truly.

But imagine getting to try online therapy for free?

With the website online-therapy.com you can use their online platform on their free plan.

This is the online therapy platform that I used many years ago and it helped me make many mental breakthroughs.

I’d recommend it to anyone because I know first hand how impactful online-therapy.com could be for you and your life.

And the best part is, they have a free plan that you can sign up for and get familiar with their dashboard and list of therapy tools.

And keep in mind this is not a free trial but a completely free plan!

The free plan comes with the following:

online-therapy.com dashboard

Online therapy on a secure and confidential platform:

Feeling like the online platform is secure which means your private information is secure is, of course, a big concern for many people.

But you don’t need to worry about that with online-therapy.com.

They are HIPAA (The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliant and they delete your encrypted information after 2 years on their server or you can delete is sooner than that if you’d like).

what online-therapy.com has to offer

-8 easy-to-follow sections, including 25 worksheets:

There are 8 sections of insightful information for you to read.

These sections cater to the specific issues you are having.

You see when you first create an account, you tell them which major issues you are struggling with.

Anxiety, addiction, depression, panic attacks etc.

Your 8 sections of information and your worksheet will work together to help heal you mentally of these issues.

-Yoga and meditation videos, journal, activity plan, and tests:

You also get access to these tools, free of charge.

One Major Drawback To The Online-Therapy Free Plan

The drawback to the free online-therapy.com plan is that you don’t get access to the therapist.

As much as I believe you should try the free plan, I know, from personal experience that you will see the most growth from working with the therapist.

The journals and worksheets are a good start.

You could start healing from using those alone.

But the breakthroughs happened for me when I began my sessions with my therapist.

She also (from what I remember), reads and makes constructive comments to your worksheets.

Being able to have someone else’s professional perspective on my thoughts caused me to see myself and my thoughts in a new light.

Which means I saw my life in a new light as well.

As I said earlier, if I hadn’t gotten online therapy including the plan with the therapist, I would not be writing to you today.

I truly hope to help others who are struggling with anxiety, depression, addiction, and other mental health concerns.

Journals and worksheets are a good start but there’s no substitute for that human to human connection that you get with a therapist.

With that plan, you can communicate with a licensed professional therapist in several different ways:

  1. live video chat such as zoom or Skype
  2. Live voice conversations
  3. Live chat or text
  4. Worksheet feedback
  5. Messaging

What’s really effective is that you get assigned one personal therapist throughout your whole program.

That means they really get to know you and your story and can learn to better assist you as time goes on.

And that’s good for you because you’ll feel more comfortable opening up the more you talk to them.

And what I’ve found is the more you open up and the more honest you are, the radical the changes that you’ll see.

Conclusion: Are you ready to make a change and start online-therapy?

These are really just a few of the advantages of online therapy vs traditional.

Hopefully, I was able to highlight why it would be beneficial to you.

I know that it helped changed my life no joke and I truly pray that it can do the same for you if you give it a chance.

If you’re ready to try it out, you can try it here for free.
