9 Bedtime Prayer Ideas For ADHD Women
As much as I want to have a consistent nighttime prayer routine, I really struggle with it. Fortunately, there is no commandment that says “thou shalt have a consistent bedtime prayer routine”.
If there was, I would surely need to ask for forgiveness. However, there are some routines that I want to start trying to follow before bed that will help me end the day in communion with God.
Some of the ideas I already do and have been giving me a good night’s sleep so I’m excited to share these thoughts with y’all and hopefully they will help you too!

So like I said, I want to have a solid bedtime prayer routine… but actually sticking to one is another story.
Between my ADHD symptoms (source), exhaustion, and other adulting responsibilities, my nights rarely go as planned.
Can you relate? You intend to pray before you fall asleep, but you get caught up in a spiral of thoughts about everything from your unfinished to-do list to family and work stresses.
Before you know it, you’ve fallen asleep, lamp still alight and your glasses still on.
But here’s the thing—I don’t want to end my days feeling scattered, stressed, or disconnected from God. I want to build a bedtime prayer routine that actually works for me, not one that feels like another task on my never-ending to-do list.
So, I’ve put together a list of nine simple prayer routines I want to adopt—nothing fancy or overwhelming, just easy, meaningful ways to end my night with Jesus.
If you’ve ever struggled with consistency in your nighttime prayers, you’re not alone.
But I have a sneaking suspicion that even small, intentional moments with God before bed can bring peace, deepen our faith, and help us wake up feeling refreshed and renewed.
So, let’s dive in! Here are nine bedtime prayer routines I’m working on—and maybe you’ll find a few that work for you, too.
* 9 Bedtime Prayer Routines I Want to Adopt (IF My ADHD Will Let Me)*
Now, let’s get into the nine bedtime prayer routines I actually want to stick with.
These are simple, practical, and perfect for busy women who want to connect with God before bed—without the pressure of perfection.
1. Prayer Journaling Before Bed
If you’ve spent any time here, then you had to know this would be on the list. I love the idea of ending my day by writing out my thoughts, prayers, and gratitude in a journal.
Not only does it help me process my emotions, but it also creates a record of God’s faithfulness over time. Plus, writing things down keeps my ADHD brain from spinning in a million directions.
However, do I do this every day? Of course not. Not even close. I do it when I remember to do it.
But I know that when I do it, my prayer journal entries are focused and don’t meander like the prayers that tumble around in my head like socks in a dryer. So that’s why prayer journaling is my fav.
I use a digital prayer journal like this one that I created in Trello. But I also use paper ones like the printable prayer journals here because I love to physically write as well.

2. Listening to a Prayer Video
Some nights, my brain is too tired to form words, and that’s where prayer videos come in. Just hitting play and listening to someone pray over me helps calm my mind and refocus my heart on God.
Now you might be like “I’m sorry, what?”. Maybe you’ve never heard of prayer videos?
Yeah, I didn’t know they were a thing either, but behold… here is one now that you can look at to see what they are like.
I prayed this prayer more than once, and I must say, an unexpected financial blessing did happen for me, praise God.
I’m not saying God will just give us money for no reason. He isn’t an ATM, but I have humbly prayed the prayer and this video, and have been blessed. That’s all I’m saying.
And there are plenty more prayer videos. This is just an example of one that I’ve prayed and seen God work in my life as a result.
3. Watching a Bible Study Video
Instead of scrolling through social media before bed (which just makes my mind more restless because of all the rage bait and gossip online), I want to swap that habit with watching a short Bible study video.
Even a 10-minute devotional can shift my mindset and help me sleep with God’s truth on my heart. For instance, there is a channel on YouTube that has a 5ish-minute Bible study on every single chapter of every book of the Bible.
I’ve started watching the 5-minute study of a chapter and then reading that chapter with a greater understanding of what I’m reading.
It’s been sooo helpful doing it this way bc sometimes I’m truly lost.
4. Reading a Bible Passage and Praying Through It
Another idea I’ve had is to just read a short passage, and a quick reflection can be enough instead of reading entire chapters.
I could pick a verse, read it slowly, and as I read it, turn it into a personal prayer to God.
5. Using a Prayer App for Guided Prayer
When my mind is racing, guided prayer videos and apps can keep me focused. There are so many great prayer apps with prompts and guided prayers that I can listen to or read before bed.
This keeps me from zoning out or getting distracted by random thoughts. I also have prayer prompts in this post that you can use to banish distractions.
6. Write down a prayer and recite it
Another idea I have tried in the past and just remembered that I did was to have a prayer already written out.
And then I would read it every day and write down any updates in my life or answered prayers that I want to remember. I like this because sometimes, the simplest prayers are the most powerful.
So, how did I do it?
I simply opened up a Google doc and named it my daily prayer, and then I wrote out a prayer of what was on my heart at the time that I wanted to pray about daily.
You can also write one in your prayer journal.
I totally forgot I used to do that, and I will start doing that again soon.
7. Journaling 3 Things I’m Grateful for and Praying Over Them
Gratitude is a game-changer, and it never (rarely) fails to boost my mood when I’m feeling low. So before bed, I could jot down three things I’m thankful for and say a short prayer of thanks.
It’s an easy way to shift my mindset from stress to peace. Now, of course, I will have to set a reminder on my phone to do this because I will forget.
But that’s ok because at least I recognize that and know my limitations.
8. Doing a Prayer Walk Around My Room
Okay, I know this might sound weird, but sometimes I need to move while I pray.
Walking back and forth in my room while I talk to God keeps me from getting sleepy or distracted.
It’s a great way to release the worries of the day before lying down because, as you know, exercise is a great stress reliever.
9. Silent Prayer & Deep Breathing Before Sleep
Instead of letting my mind race with tomorrow’s to-do list, I want to end my day with a few minutes of silent prayer and deep breathing. I am not good at this.
This is basically meditation, and I struggle with the concept.
I mean, I love the idea in theory, but putting it into practice is a whole ‘nother thing.
It’s hard to sit still and just breathe. But I know how beneficial it has been the few times I’ve done it. Just resting in God’s presence and breathing slowly helps my body and mind relax so I can actually sleep.
So I definitely need to try this more.
