Passionate Prayer Journal Prompts To Reignite Your Faith!

You know when you’re praying and it almost feels like another task to check off your list as opposed to a genuine conversation with God? For many of us, prayer can feel like an obligation. Something we have to get through in order to be good Christians.

But what if there was more to it?

What if praying was more than just checking off a box on your Christian bucket list? And what if you could use your words as well as actions to strengthen your faith?

A prayer journal is one amazing way to do just that!

I love journaling and I’m excited to share with you prayer journaling prompts that will set your prayer life on fire.

But first, let’s talk about what a prayer journal is!

Oh yeah, and this post contains affiliate links to great products that will help you in your health journey. I will get a commission if you decide to buy from these links but I’m only recommending products that I feel confident about and from companies that I trust like Amazon and others. Please let me know if you have any questions.

– A Prayer Journal Is More Than Just A Blank Notebook

A prayer journal isn’t just a blank notebook you keep in the drawer until the next church service rolls around.

Instead, it’s a place where you can write down the things God reveals to you, all the thoughts and feelings you have, and any other information you think will be helpful to you in the future.

And if you’re thinking that a prayer journal is only for people who are highly spiritual, you couldn’t be further from the truth! The truth is that even newborn Christians can benefit from keeping a prayer journal.

It’s a great way to keep a record of the prayers you’ve prayed in the past, answered prayers, and God’s promises to you.

This way, you can refer back to your journal whenever you need having doubts that God is listening, you’ll have a living faith document of how He’s provided for you in the past.

– One HUGE Reason Your Prayers Don’t Work

Have you ever felt like you’ve prayed for something and God just isn’t trying to hear you? I totally understand this frustration.

But I know for me personally, one HUGE reason why my prayers seemed to get ignored is that I wasn’t persistent and passionate with my prayers. James 5:16 tells us to pray fervently.

Sometimes my prayers would be like “God I’ve prayed this over and over and I’m not sure if it will ever happen.

It probably won’t but I’ll just pray it anyway”. Wow, so much passion, right? Why would God answer a wimpy prayer like that? I mean He might, right, just because He’s good but I wouldn’t blame Him if He didn’t.

But really the sneakier reason why I prayed like that is that I didn’t always have faith in the power of prayer. I didn’t get it. Do events in life actually change just because I prayed about something?

Can my prayers truly lead to life change or healing in someone’s life?

I’ll admit that I wasn’t really sure because frankly, I didn’t understand prayer.

I believed that whatever was going to happen was going to happen because God already had everything planned out. So why pray about it?

But after doing more study and listening to sermons, I’m beginning to realize just how powerful prayer really is, especially when we pray the way the Bible instructs us to.

Pray with passion and boldness. Pray like He really is listening (because He is). Pray persistently.

Keep asking until you get a firm answer. Pray for His will to be done. Before you know it, your prayer life will be blazing hot! And a wonderful way to set your prayer life on fire is through journaling so let’s dig into that a little deeper.

– Why Keeping A Prayer Journal Matters

Keeping a prayer journal is more than just a nifty way to organize your thoughts and record your prayers.

It’s a powerful way to strengthen your faith through the words you choose to use. After all, what we say to ourselves and God is incredibly important. This is why keeping a prayer journal is so important.

Journaling is a great way to get your thoughts and feelings out there and get them under control. And prayer is an amazing way to communicate with God. So when you combine these two practices, it’s a match made in heaven.

I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression and journaling is wonderful for untangling those negative thoughts onto a page and trying to sort it out.

But just think of how much more powerful journaling is when you take those same thoughts and you lift them up to the Father?

Who can remove and sort out your negative thoughts better than your Creator? Spoiler alert…no one!

And you can prayer journal your goals, dreams, plans, fears, desires, and so much more.

Plus, they serve as a powerful reminder of the times God answered your prayers.

And of course, there should be places in your prayer journal where you pray for others who are in need. There are really so many options with this and I hope so badly that you’ll start a prayer journal!

But how do you start such a journal?

I’ll touch on that next.

– How To Start A Prayer Journal

If you’re ready to start keeping a prayer journal, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. First of all, you don’t need to buy anything fancy (unless you want to).

A simple notebook will do just fine.

Next, you want to choose a place where you can keep your prayer journal safe and accessible.

The best option is to keep it by the bed or on your nightstand. This way, it’s always within easy reach.

Another great option is to keep a journal app on your phone. This way, it’s always with you and you can write in it whenever inspiration strikes.

I have a prayer journal in the free app called Trello (it comes with a Bible study journal which you can check out here). I love being able to have all of my prayers in one place so I know exactly where to find them.

But writing your prayers with an actual pen seems even more personal so when I’m really wanting to feel close to God I will write either on plain paper or a prayer journal printable.

You can take a look at the prayer journal printable (pic below) I use by clicking here.

–  25 Prayer Prompts For Women To Ignite Your Faith

Now that you know what a prayer journal is and why you should start keeping one, here are 100 prayer journal prompts for women to strengthen their faith.

They can help you to organize your thoughts, find comfort in God’s promises and get to know yourself better as well as strengthen your relationship with God.

These prayer journaling prompts are going to be based on the 5 finger prayer. VBS (vacation Bible school) just ended at my church and one of the things we learned about what the 5 finger prayer.

I had never heard of this prayer before but this method is as powerful as it is simplistic. I’m going to share with you what each prompt means and then expound on each concept deeper.

Each finger will represent what or who you will be praying for.

1) The Thumb Prayer

Your thumb represents the people who are closest to you like your loved ones  (family, friends, spouse, etc.)

Here are some prayer prompts you can say for your loved ones.

– Thumb Prayer Journal Prompts For Those Closest To You

  • What lost family members do I need to pray for?
  • What lost friends do I need to pray for?
  • Who has been the biggest prayer warrior in my life?
  • Write 3 scriptures to pray over your children
  • Write 3 scriptures to pray over your spouse.
  • Think of one friend who is going through a hard time. Think of 3 specific prayers and blessings that you can pray for her/him.
  • Have you had issues with your spouse lately? Pray for ways you can serve them more and pray that God will bless them despite your issues.

2) The Pointer Finger Prayer

Use this finger to remind yourself to pray for those who point or guide people. People who give advice and are in ministerial positions like teachers, preachers, coaches, and therapists.

These people have great influence over the minds of others and we want them to have wisdom as they distill this advice.

– Pointer Finger Prayer Prompts For Those Who Guide Us

  • Do you have a boss that you don’t get along with? Pray for God to bless him or her despite your issues. Pray for the restoration of the relationship.
  • If you go to therapy, pray that God will give them wisdom and insight.
  • For parents, pray over your children’s teachers, coaches, and youth ministers. Ask God to protect them and keep their hearts pure.
  • Preachers, elders, deacons, and their families have high levels of scrutiny so lift them up in prayer as well. Pray for godly leadership skills and a heart to grow the church spiritually and numerically.

3) The Tallest Finger Prayer Prompts

This finger represents leaders whether they be the president, mayors, senators, or bosses. Anyone that has influence over salaries, policies, or decisions that effect large groups of people need to be prayed for.

– Tallest Finger Prayer Prompts For Those Who Lead Us

  • Pray for a political leader that you don’t like. (Pray for them sincerely not Like a “I pray that they won’t be such a jerk” prayer lol but a real sincere prayer)
  • School board members make very important decisions and have great influence over what our children learn. Please pray for them to want and seek wisdom.
  • Is there a local election coming up? Pray about who you should vote for
  • Christians are being persecuted all over the world. Pray that world leaders will have love and compassion for their citizens that are being abused and murdered.

4) The Ring Finger Prayer

Your ring finger is your weakest finger so this reminds us to pray for those who are poor, needy, sick, lonely, and depressed.

– Ring Finger Prayer Prompts For Those Who Are Weak

  • There’s been an increase in homelessness. Ask God to bless those who are looking for affordable housing.
  • Loneliness is at an epidemic. What are 3 blessings you can pray over people who feel like they are alone? Ask God if there’s a way that you can support them!
  • Look over the prayer list at your church and ask God to heal each person who needs help physically, mentally, or spiritually.
  • Suicide rates have risen since the pandemic started. Suicidal thoughts can be caused by unseen spiritual forces. Ask for God to remove evil spirits from those with suicidal thoughts.
  • Pray for victims of abuse, including those that are being sex trafficked.

5) The Pinky Finger Prayer

Of course, we can’t leave ourselves out of the equation and that’s what the pinky finger is for. I like that it’s last so that we are sure to humble ourselves.

We have to remember to think of others and it would be really easy to have all 5 fingers represent ourselves but instead we are the last and smallest finger.

Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and He will lift you up is the scripture that comes to mind with this.

– Pinky Finger Prayer Prompts For Personal Prayers

  • If you have goals and dreams that you want to achieve, invite God into those plans and ask for His guidance.
  • Are you struggling with a secret sin? God wants to free you of that…pray that He will break that chains that bind you!
  • Write down your worries and fears and lift them up to God. Ask Him for stronger faith so that fear has no place in your life!
  • Do you have any major decisions you need help making? Write a prayer seeking wisdom on the path you should take.
  • If you have health problems write down in detail what parts of your body need healing.
