7 Creative Ways To Spend More Time With God Everyday Even When You’re Short On Time!
Spending time with God is always important but right now, with how crazy the world seems, it feels even more vital.
But even as essential as it is to spend quality time with God, it still seems like so much of life gets in the way of this happening.
In our busyness, our time with our heavenly Father gets pushed to the side in favor of “more pressing” things.
We’ll say “I’ll do my study tomorrow” and then 10 tomorrows go by and we still haven’t spent any time with the Lord.
So what’s a Christian woman with a busy schedule supposed to do?
We could say no more often but if you’ve already committed to long-term, time-consuming commitments, it’s a bad witness to abandon your responsibilities.
You need some creative ideas that can help you spend more time with Jesus whether it be in prayer, Bible study, through worship and singing, Bible journaling, etc.
Being alone with God on a frequent basis is one of the best ways to obtain the spiritual growth that God wants us to have (and that we want too).
Alone time with God is one of the most important aspects of Christian living.
That’s why I’ve come up with some unique ways to spend more time with Jesus even when you’re short on time!
These are ideas that you probably haven’t considered.
In fact, some of the ideas are a little outside of the box so to speak so you’ll have to be a little open-minded with me here 🙂
None of these ideas are meant to take the place of a true deep dive Bible study.
But they will still help you stay connected to the Father because you’ll be spending time with Him throughout the day.
Okay now, let’s go ahead and get started.
– 7 Unique Ways To Spend More Quiet Time God In Bible Study & Worship
1)Pray & Study In The Bathroom
Don’t laugh ya’ll (okay you can laugh a little :)). I mean, we all have to go at some point and I don’t know about you but I usually go by myself.
If you have a bigger bathroom, like I used to, you can keep a Bible on a magazine stand. And let’s keep it real.
Many of us take our trusty little cell phones to the bathroom too and if your’s is anything like mine, you have about 20 Bible apps on there.
So I’m just saying, you know, Bible app…alone time…
Sounds like the perfect time to be alone with the Lord to me!
You probably won’t be writing questions down in your Bible journal or anything… but wait…
Scratch that.
You actually could do that if you used the Trello Bible journal planner and journal which you can check out here.
It would be super easy to type any study questions, notes, or thoughts you had about what you were studying in this digital Bible journal.
So you could actually do a pretty in-depth Bible study in the bathroom if need be. You know…whatever works!
2) Spend Time With God At Work
Most of us only get a measly little 30-minute lunch break (forgive me, Lord, for being a little bitter lol) and many times we still find ourselves working during our “break”.
But if you’re one of the lucky ones who actually get a true break for lunch, this could be a good time to get a 5 to 10-minute break with the Lord.
And if you get an hour break? You’ve got it made! You can actually eat a nice leisurely lunch for 30 minutes and 30 minutes of Bible study time!
3) Do A Bible Reading In Your Bed
I hit the snooze button on my phone’s alarm just like you but if you can wake up just 5 to 10 minutes earlier, this is another perfect opportunity to spend more time with God.
I get up at 4:50 am every weekday so I know how hard it is to wake up. And if you have babies to take care of then it can seem even harder.
But if you could wake up earlier, 5 extra minutes with Christ every day would make a huge difference to the quality of your day.
Or for my night owls out there, maybe the best time for you to pray or Bible journal is at night.
Either way work…just choose which one works best with your schedule.
4) Spend Time With God In Public
You might think I’ve gone off my rocker (I mean it is a possibility, I’ll admit)
You might be thinking “Ummm, say what? Does she want me to have a Bible study in aisle 3 at Walmart”
Not exactly. Don’t start singing “10,000 Reasons” in the middle of Target (although I have seen videos of people singing gospel songs in Sams so who am I to say no?).
What I’m saying is that anytime you are waiting in a long never-ending line, you could be praying or reading your way through Proverbs or whatever book you’re on at the time.
Wherever you might be waiting in line, whether that be the DMV, Kroger, or the post office you can spend time with God.
Like one time, because I apparently had nothing better to do, I decided to wait in a 30-minute line at Popeye’s.
This was pure bravery on my part because this was in the middle of the crazy chicken sandwich chaos but I digress.
Anywho, instead of just sitting in the car listening to the radio I used my phone and started writing a blog post.
However, if it had occurred to me at the time, I could have been doing a Bible study.
In that moment of hurry up and wait, I could have spent that time in prayer or meditation and it would have made that long drive-thru line a whole lot more meaningful!
5) Sing Worship Music & Listen To Videos In The Kitchen
I think a lot of people have TVs in the kitchen (I don’t) so when they are chopping their vegetables and making lunches they probably have Wheel of Fortune or some Netflix show playing in the background.
However, I tend to listen to YouTube videos while I’m meal prepping or cooking including faith-based videos.
YouTube has so many wonderful Bible-based and Christian videos.
Here are some of the ones I listen to more frequently:
Or you can play worship music while you’re washing dishes. Or listen to a Bible study podcast. There are really several options that you could do in the kitchen!
6) Do An Online Bible Study In The Shower
If you struggle to find time by yourself then guess what? You can have personal worship time and Bible study time in the shower the same way you can in the kitchen!
YouTube has videos of different books of the Bible being read out loud that you can listen to while you lather up. And there are so many good studies on there too.
One Bible study that has really blessed me and helped me see creation in a new way is a study by Jen Wilkin called God Of Creation.
In Joshua 1:8 (NIV) it says “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night”. Meditating on the word while you’re showering sounds like the perfect plan for the woman who finds it hard to be alone with God.
7) Spend Quiet Time In The Car Or On Your Commute
By now you’ve probably noticed a pattern forming but you can apply the same tips from points 5 and 6 to point 7 as well.
When you’re in your car, commuting to work (or on the subway or walking or however you get to work), you can have Bible studies playing on your phone or in your car’s audio system. You can have Bible verses being read to you.
I remember my mom playing audio CDs of the Bible in her car all the time. I think she had a CD for each book of the Bible. What a blessing to have so many ways to spend quality time with Jesus.
– How Will You Choose To Spend Time With God?
I hope after reading this post, making time for God won’t be so hard after all. Psalm 119 talks about hiding His word in our hearts and meditating on His precepts and if you start to apply these tips that we’ve discussed to your life, then that is exactly what you’ll be doing.
You will be hearing God speak to you all day. What an amazing time it is to be alive with all of the technology we have and all the various ways in which we can consume His word!
