Powerful Bible Verses For Anxiety Attacks

Mental health, especially having issues like anxiety attacks, is a bit of a taboo subject in modern Churches.
There aren’t a lot of pastors that openly talk about Christians who have mental health issues such as anxiety disorder or depression, and what can be done in order to help them.
Oftentimes Christians will brush it under the rug and say that you are lacking faith, or need to pray to God more.
We know that Jesus died for our sins, for the sins of the whole world, and there is nothing that is impossible with Him.
There are so many testimonies throughout time of people breaking free of their mental health issues that Jesus has healed them from.
But this isn’t going to be the case for everyone. For many, including myself, there are ongoing struggles that we have to work through.
I suffer from anxiety and have done so for a very long time. Some days are harder than others, but what truly helps me get through each day is my faith in God alone.
Relying On God To Battle Anxiety & Mental Health Issues
Whenever there is an anxious moment/thought or even an anxiety attack building up, I put on my armor of God and pray to Him to help me through it.
God is happy to do His part with helping you through any struggles, but we also need to do our part too.
We need to have complete faith and trust in God alone to get us through these mental battles.
We can’t lean on our own understanding but rely on the perfect peace of God.
We also have to be willing to fight against these anxious moments too.
How The Devil Uses Anxiety & Fear To Weaken Us
What I have noticed over these past few years is that the devil sees anxiety as a sign of weakness and tends to use it against me.
I will often go through many spiritual battles against the devil who will orchestrate certain things to occur in my life that bring me anxiety.
He wants to bring me back to the place where I first started, which was being a super anxious, scared girl who didn’t have Jesus or the Holy Spirit in her life.
God tells us in 2 Timothy 1:7 that fear does not come from Him.
God is love and His love is perfect, and His perfect love casts out all fear.
The devil wants to keep us in a state of fear all the time. That is why we need to do our part and make sure that we are being led in faith only.
What God’s Word Says About Anxiety Attacks
There are many ways to help you get through anxiety or anxiety attacks. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 10:5 to cast down imaginations.
This means that any kind of negative/anxious thought or feeling that enters our mind, we need to not entertain it, and cast it out.
Powerful Bible Verses To Win The Battle Over Anxiety Attacks & Fear
This takes a lot of practice of course. Then what you can do is essentially replace those negative thoughts with scripture.
Filling our minds with scripture is going to help keep us in the right frame of mind, and encourage us to turn to the Word of God whenever we have those mental battles to face.
Check out this list of Bible verses below.
These are some of my favorite Bible verses to help me with anxiety/anxiety attacks. You can write them down on index cards, or learn and memorize them:
1. 2 Timothy 1:7 – “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”.
2. Isaiah 41:10 – “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness”.
3. 1 John 4:18 – “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love”.
4. 1 Peter 5:7 – “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you”.
5. Matthew 11:28-30 – “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light”.
6. Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”.
7. Isaiah 40:31 – “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint”.
8. Joshua 1:9 – “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest”.
9. Psalm 55:22 – “Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved”.
10. Psalm 27:1 – “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

11. Phillipians 4:8- 10 – Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.

When To Get Professional Help For Your Anxiety
I in no way want to discount the power of prayer or Bible study but there are times when you need to get professional help.
It might be through online therapy or with a caring Christian counselor.
If you’re going through a particularly hard time or stressful time, it might be that you start experiencing intense panic attacks.
I’ve experienced this and the chest pain I experienced made me fear that I was having a heart attack.
So I sought medical help not knowing it was actually a panic attack I was experiencing. The good news was I wasn’t physically in danger.
But the bad news is that my anxiety had gotten out of control and I needed to get help of a different kind.

Prayer For Anxiety Attacks
Dear Lord,
I know that anxiety and fear don’t come from you. But even though I’m your child, I have not been able to overcome this struggle yet.
The devil likes for me to drown in fear and depression. He wants me to find comfort in fear rather than finding joy, peace, and comfort in you.
I understand that this battle that I’m facing right now is too powerful for me to overcome alone. I can’t do this on my own Lord.
I need your grace, mercy, and love to win this battle. I need Jesus to advocate for me against this anxiety that has gripped my heart. I need the Holy Spirit to fill me to the point where fear no longer has any room to stay.
Only you can do that, Lord. I acknowledge my weakness and praise you for your strength. I pray that you will generously share that strength with me and grant me the power to banish fear from my life now and forever.
It’s in Jesus’ holy name, I pray. Amen!
How To Use Anti-Anxiety Bible Verses In Your Journal
Using a journal to work out my feelings of anxiety and depression has been one of the most effective tools in my mental health arsenal.
I can’t tell you the number of times I felt so confused and conflicted about my thoughts that I just wanted to cry.
But then I started writing in my journal and felt such a sense of release and relief that I no longer had to carry all of those thoughts around in my head.
For these reasons, I highly encourage you to start journaling if you aren’t already.
You can use Bible printables like this one to write down these Bible verses and commit them to memory.
You can write out your thoughts about how the verses make you feel or what you believe God is trying to tell you through them.
You can write down prayers centered around some of these scriptures.
There are so many ways you can use these Bible verses in your journal.
The more we feed on God’s word, the less anxious we should (hopefully) feel.
Journaling is by no means a cure-all but I can tell you from personal experience that it does help alleviate anxiety over time!
Lean On The Promises Of God To Overcome Anxiety Attacks
Remember to always turn to Christ Jesus whenever you are struggling with anxiety or are having an anxiety attack.
Give everything to God in prayer, for He cares about you and wants to help you. Take some deep breaths, and read these scriptures out loud to remind yourself of God’s love.
Also know that you are not alone. Many Christians struggle with anxiety and being negatively guided by fear.
Just know that God is faithful, and He will never leave you nor forsake you. Stand strong, read your Bible, fill your mind with scriptures daily, and put on the armor of God to fight against spiritual warfare.
