5 Ways Aloe Vera Makes Styling Natural Hair Easier!
If you’ve ever looked at the ingredients on your hair products and thought,
“Why is aloe vera in everything?”
Same.
Years ago, I kept seeing aloe vera juice and gel in natural hair products, but I didn’t really understand why. It just seemed like one of those “healthy ingredients” that everybody used but nobody explained.
So I did what we all do…
I went to Google.
And what I found had me ready to run to the store immediately.
Aloe vera was supposed to:
- Help with hair growth
- Moisturize dry hair
- Reduce frizz
- Smooth hair
- Soothe the scalp
- Help with dandruff
I was sold.
But then… I tried it… and didn’t love it.
So I stopped using it.
And completely forgot about it.

Why Documenting Your Glow-Up Journey Actually Matters
Fast forward to now…
I randomly came across this old post I had written and realized something:
I had already figured out something that worked for my hair… and forgot about it.
If you’re on a glow-up journey, this is exactly why you need to document what works for you.
Because when you don’t?
You end up repeating the same trial-and-error cycle over and over again.
That’s one of the reasons I started using a simple system to track things like this inside my glow-up planner (I use Trello for mine).
👉 If you want something simple to track your routines, products, and progress, this is the one I use:

Nothing complicated. Just a place to remember what actually works.
Why Aloe Vera Is So Good for Your Hair
Here’s what I didn’t fully appreciate back then…
Aloe vera is one of those rare ingredients that works for almost everyone.
I personally have 4a/4b hair, but the beauty of aloe vera is that it works across hair types because it:
- Adds real moisture (not just surface shine)
- Helps reduce frizz without making hair stiff
- Makes hair feel softer and easier to manage
- Soothes dry, irritated scalps
- Helps your hair feel healthier overall
And if your hair has ever felt:
- dry
- stiff
- crunchy
- hard to style
…this is where aloe vera really shines.
The Braid-Out Test That Changed Everything
So let me tell you what actually made me fall in love with aloe vera.
One day, I decided to test a few different things on my hair.
I did a braid-out and used:
- Rosewater on one section
- Glycerin on another
- Aloe vera juice on another
When I took the braids down…
The rosewater?
Didn’t like it.
The glycerin?
Also not impressed.
But the aloe vera section?
Completely different.
My hair felt:
- soft
- moisturized
- healthy
But what really shocked me was this…
When I shook my head,
only that section moved.
Everything else was stiff.
That aloe vera section had life to it.

The Unexpected Benefit: The “Swang” Effect
Listen…
Nobody told me aloe vera would do this.
But it gave my hair something I had never had before:
Movement.
Not dry, stiff, “stuck in place” hair…
But soft, moisturized hair that actually moved.
That “swang swang” 😂
And if you know, you know.
That’s when I realized:
It wasn’t just about moisture.
It was about how my hair felt and behaved.
5 Easy Ways to Use Aloe Vera for Soft, Moisturized Hair
If you’re overwhelmed by complicated routines, don’t worry.
You do NOT need to do the most.
Here are some simple, beginner-friendly ways to use aloe vera:
1. Use It as a Simple Leave-In Spray
Mix aloe vera juice with a little water in a spray bottle.
Use it to:
- refresh your hair during the week
- add moisture without buildup
2. Add It to Your Conditioner
Mix a little aloe vera gel into your conditioner.
This helps boost moisture without needing a whole new product.
3. Use It for Braid-Outs or Twist-Outs
This is my favorite way.
Apply aloe vera juice or gel before braiding or twisting your hair.
This is what gave me that soft, moisturized finish with movement.
4. Apply It Directly to Your Scalp
If your scalp is dry or irritated, aloe vera can be very soothing.
Just apply a small amount directly to your scalp and massage it in.
5. Use It as a Mid-Week Moisture Boost
Hair feeling dry halfway through the week?
A little aloe vera can bring it back to life without starting over.
Why Aloe Vera Might Not Have Worked for You Before
If you’ve tried aloe vera and didn’t like it, you’re not alone.
Here’s what I realized:
- I was using it with too many other products
- I didn’t test it by itself
- I didn’t really pay attention to what it was doing
Once I simplified everything, I could clearly see the difference.
Sometimes it’s not the product…
It’s how we’re using it.
A Simple Hair Routine for Overwhelmed Women
If you’re like me and get overwhelmed easily, keep it simple:
- Pick 1–2 ways to use aloe vera
- Use it consistently for a week or two
- Pay attention to how your hair feels
That’s it.
No complicated routines.
No 10-step systems.
Final Thoughts: Don’t Forget What Works
The biggest lesson for me wasn’t just that aloe vera works…
It was this:
I had already discovered something that worked and forgot about it.
And I don’t want you doing the same thing.
Whether it’s aloe vera or something else…
When you find something that works for your hair, your routines, or your life:
👉 Write it down
👉 Track it
👉 Keep it simple
Because your glow-up isn’t about doing everything.
It’s about remembering what actually works for you and building from there.
Before You Go…
If you want to try aloe vera for yourself, look for:
- pure aloe vera juice
- or aloe vera gel with minimal ingredients
(You can grab one here when you’re ready — I’ll link my favorite once I pick one.)
Now I want to hear from you:
What’s one product you’ve tried that completely changed your hair?
Because I know aloe vera isn’t the only one
