Are you looking for some morning routine ideas that won’t leave you running ragged like you probably are now? Do you dream of having breakfast at a kitchen table instead of in the car? Then this post might be of some help so please continue reading!

Do you find yourself rushing around in the morning trying to get ready for work or get the kids off to school? Do you wish you could have a smoother less chaotic morning?

I was wanting the same exact thing. I don’t have children but still I found myself getting up earlier and still rushing around trying to get ready for work and STILL being late.

It was crazy.

I knew I had to change something so I started thinking about it. And I came up with some ways that have allowed me to get up at my normal time and still have time to eat a leisurely breakfast and have time to do some blogging work

You see the principles behind what I’m going to share with you is this: more than likely, you do the same exact things every morning.

I doubt you have a different routine for every morning. If you do then I’m sorry but this guide won’t help you. But if you do have the same routine and you’re tired of running ragged every day then let me help you.

I have some very simple solutions for you.

One is this…

Baskets.

Huh?

Yes, you heard me. Baskets can help you in your morning routine

It’s very simple really. You’re just grouping like things together in baskets.

Wait no… let me explain it better.

What I mean is you’re grouping items together by task. This can be digital and physical but we’re just going to focus on physical items that you use in the morning.

For instance, I recently created a morning routine hygiene basket. Before I did this I had my items scattered all over the bathroom.

I had items strewn all over my bathroom. I had stuff in my tiny messy closet. I had items in my shower, stuff under the sink.

And every morning I had to wade through piles of unnecessary stuff to get to the necessary stuff. Relocating the same items every morning cost me so much time and mental frustration.

Why sway why?

It made no sense. I thought to myself “There has to be a better way”

And there was!

Morning Routine Ideas: How I Carved 20 Extra Minutes Into My Day Without Waking Up Earlier

1. My next thought “Why not have a morning routine hygiene basket with most of the items I use every day because I basically have the same routine.”

Duh.

I now have an extra 15 minutes and sometimes 20 minutes in the morning without getting up earlier. Crazy and so simple right?

Now I have more time in the morning to write blog posts, create content work in my business, read, study God’s word, etc.

Since that has worked so well, I’m looking to basketize, as I call it, everything I can.

This basket system has been such a blessing for my mornings.

Here are the benefits

– Everything I need is within arms reach

-I no longer have to reach behind my lotion to get to my deodorant or vice versa. I know where everything is

– Clean-up is super easy. Everything I use goes right back in the basket after I’m done and then I just put the whole basket back in the closet and my counters are clean again. My counters can be cleaned off in a snap.

2. Something else I did in my bathroom…

Everything I use in the morning can’t necessarily go into my one basket and that’s ok. I have another basket or, drawer, rather that I keep in the closet that has everything else that I use that’s not in the other basket.

Those items are too large for my “counter” basket as it were.

However, this was how I used to spend my mornings:

I had my hair products separated from my other hygiene products. They were in two separate baskets. One drawer was on one shelf and the other one was on another shelf.

So inefficient.

Then it dawned on me that half the products in both baskets weren’t even being used in the morning (product junkie, anyone?).

So again, I was wading through all types of redundancies to get to what I really needed.

So I took the most used products (that wouldn’t fit in the counter basket) and put all of them in one drawer that was on the eye-level shelf.

Brilliant right (I’m being a bit sarcastic here…not sure why I’m just now doing this).

Here are some other things I do to make my morning routine less chaotic & stress-free…

-I pick out my clothes the night before.   And I make sure they are lying or hanging up in the room in which I plan to get dressed.

– I used to have my clothes hanging in my bedroom but I would get dressed in the bathroom. Again, why?

-I put my coffee in the coffee pot the night before. Sometimes I just go ahead and brew it and then just heat it in the microwave. I know that’s not as good as fresh but it still tastes delish to me.

– I lay out my plate, fork, and napkin the night before.

– I scramble my eggs for the week in one large dish. I don’t cook them but I scramble and season them and then use a scoop to portion them out into the pan in the morning. Update: I actually crack them into individual Rubbermaid containers now for portion control)

-I put all of the items that I’m cooking for breakfast on one shelf in the fridge.

Now,  I know a lot of people don’t eat breakfast in the morning or they grab a granola bar on their way out the door.

But think of how it could be if you followed this plan. You could have a nice leisurely breakfast every morning…or somewhat leisurely. Or at least have breakfast leisurely or not lol!

How to incorporate the basket system into your own home:

The idea behind the basket system is to keep the tools or items for like tasks together. What I typically do and what I think many others do is organize their items by type.

For instance, they put all of their skincare products together. They put all of their hair care products together etc.

With the basket system, you’re not putting like items together.

In order to incorporate this into your own life this is what you need to do:

1) Think about all of the routine things that you do every day or at least on a weekly basis.

2) Think about the tools, products, or items you need in order to complete that task.

3) If possible, put those items together into a basket or container of some sort.

4) Put the basket in a location that is easily accessible.

Let’s think of possible scenarios where you can incorporate this morning routine idea…

Let’s say you have 3 children all in elementary school and you have to make their lunch every weekday.

Normally you would: Constantly be looking for where you put the brown paper bags.

You’re not sure if they’re in the cabinet, pantry, or still in the car in the grocery bag.

The applesauce is in the cabinet and the crackers are in the pantry. The items you need to make the lunches are all over the place.

It normally takes 20 minutes or more to make all of the lunches.

After implementing the basket system you:

– Put the lunch bags, non-perishable items like applesauce, crackers, peanut butter packs, etc into a basket in the pantry or closet and just throw the items into the lunch bags right from the pantry.

– And you could keep the perishable items in a basket on a shelf or a drawer in the fridge. The bread, cheese, ham, and mayo could all be in the same basket for the sandwiches you make.

Then you could just pull out the basket, make the sandwiches, and put them all back in the basket.  Or you could use a drawer.

If you use the vegetable drawer as a lunch or breakfast drawer, I won’t tell 😉

– Then think of the items you need in order to do those tasks

– Put those items together in a basket or container of some sort
