Overcoming Fear with Faith: 5 Practical Tips To Let Go & Let God
Fear used to be my go-to emotion in any situation. I wasn’t always like that but over time, the devil assisted me in becoming addicted to anxiety.
Maybe you can relate…
Have you ever been too afraid to try something because you fear failing again?
Been there done that (still do at times!)
Have fearful thoughts deprived you of all the liberty you should enjoy as a Christian woman?
Do you feel held back because you fear that you’ll make a grave mistake?
Maybe you’re starting to believe those nagging thoughts that tell you you’ll never be good enough at anything you do.
What about when you’ve prepared adequately for your presentation, but you’re afraid you’ll look like a fool in front of so many? (Ugh, I’ve so been there and done that…embarrassingly so).
“When will I ever be good enough? When will I ever be free to live truly, love, and laugh?”
Does that sound like you?
Do you sense that being afraid is costing you joy, fulfillment, accomplishments, stability, and some extra peace of mind?
If this resonates with you, trust me when I say it resonates so much with me cos that’s the exact person I used to be… till I discovered the secrets of overcoming fear with faith.
I know you want a change…and I hope that the tips I’m going to share with you today will be the beginning of that change.
Fear is not something that overwhelms me constantly like it once did.
Yes, I still suffer from it but it’s not a constant companion like it once was.
If fear and anxiety are something that you want freedom from, I encourage you to read over these words and begin to implement them into your life!
You can check out the contents below to see what’s in store!

– What Does God Say About Choosing Faith Over Fear? Scriptures To Write On Your Heart!
I’ve missed out on several opportunities because I was afraid.
Fear just has a way of cheating us out of God’s blessings.
When it rears its ugly head, sooner or later, we realize that, as always, it never has anything good to offer.
Well, our heavenly Father has not left us without His word. He knows that the devil will always want to try to steal what He has given us.
Hence, He gave us His word to remind and reassure us of His unwavering promises.
One day I had to sit down and ask, “God, why am I struggling this much with fear? What have you said about overcoming fear with faith?”
I picked up my Bible and journal with the hopes of writing several scriptures on what God said.
– Here are some of my favorite verses on overcoming fear with faith:
Isaiah 41:10 ESV
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Joshua 1:9 ESV
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
– How To Let Go and Let God – Overcoming Fear With Faith
Point #1
Use a faith or prayer journal to cast your cares on Him
Cast your cares on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be forsaken (Psalm 55:22)
Jesus doesn’t want us afraid, anxious, frightened, or in despair (He’s said so many times in the Gospels). He loves us too much to see us go through these negative emotions.
Today, He’s calling you to cast your cares and fears on Him… so why do we hold on to them so tightly? (I can sense you don’t want them to linger either).
Here’s how a prayer journal can help you cast your cares on your Heavenly Father:
- Write down everything that makes you afraid and anxious. E.g., My sick cousin, my new responsibility at work, etc.
- You can use a color pen to highlight the ones that give you the most concern and present it before God.
- Write about the times you’ve gone through difficult situations but God showed up for you. Tell Him you feel afraid of this current situation, but you’d rather surrender to Him.
- Thank God profusely for past victories and testimonies. E.g. “Father, I thank you for …” As you express your gratitude like this, anxiety and fear will stand no chance.
- Remind God that if He saw you through them, He can see you through now because He’s forever faithful. Then pray about it one after the other, trusting God to answer.
Extra tip: Write out daily (short) prayer proclamations you’ll like to repeat at different times of the day. Or use faith journal prompts to help you learn to lean on Jesus more!
Meditate on the verse “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13) to quiet the voice of weakness and inadequacy.
Point #2
Have a list of scriptures to meditate on during times of fear
Highlight some of your favorite scriptures in the Bible concerning overcoming fear with faith.
Here’s how:
- Look through your Bible and Christian resources for scriptures on the subject of fear
- Write them out in your notepad.
- Think about them and personalize them. For instance, Joshua 1:9 shows that God commands us to be strong and very courageous… Ponder on it, tell yourself, “I (put your name) am strong and very courageous. My Heavenly Father owns the world and all that is in it. He’s with me. He’s helping me now; I cannot be afraid; I’m full of faith and confidence.
- Remember David in the Bible; he had to say oh, “the Lord is my Shepherd…even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I’ll fear no evil for God is with me….” Like David, we can say the same and keep our minds focused on God’s promise. Meditation means thinking, muttering, and sometimes roaring what God has said concerning your situation. It always drowns the voice of fear and anxiety!
Point #3
Use a fear and anxiety journal to identify and explore your fears and anxieties.
Journals have always been my best pal. They allow me to bare and declutter my mind unashamedly. In fact, they’ve been my go-to for many years now.
If you have a journal, you have a hidden gem! Here’s how to use it to explore and pinpoint your fears and anxieties.
Grab your journal and a pen, and write out your answers to these questions?
- What’s making me afraid?
- Why do I feel I’m not good enough for this job opportunity?
- Why do I feel fear for the future?
- Does my circle of friends contribute to my fears and anxieties?
- What would I have done if I was not afraid?
- Do I struggle with trusting God because I like being in control of my possibilities and outcomes?
- Why am I anxious about becoming a new mom?
- Do I fear rejection, and why am I too scared to make a mistake?
Are there other questions you’d like to add to the list?
Go ahead and explore it in your journal till you arrive at a point of clarity.

Point #4
Draw strength and inspiration from Bible heroes and heroines
One of the things I love about the Bible are its heroes and heroines.
The Bible is replete with faith-filled stories of how David defeated Goliath, how Esther ‘went in’ to the king (an act that wasn’t lawful), and how Moses parted the Red Sea and faced the nefarious Pharaoh of Egypt.
As Christian women, we come from a lineage of bold, strong, and courageous people.
They were not strong in their abilities (remember that Moses was too scared to return to Egypt, but He had to draw his courage from God), for by strength shall no man prevail.
Instead, they were strong in God and made their boast in Him.
In overcoming fear with faith, I recommend reading your Bible to draw inspiration from these heroes and heroines, men and women just like you and me.
Point #5
Get counseling (online or in-person)
Do you think you need to talk to someone either online or in-person? Sometimes talking about what’s making us anxious and afraid can help us overcome these negative emotions faster.
In fact, getting counseling helps in overcoming fear with faith because we can walk through each concern with someone else.
Some people prefer online therapy and I am one of them who has benefited from them (you can read more about that by clicking the link).
If you’re not sure whether online therapy is right for you, I’ll recommend you check here for my guide on therapy.
– Conclusion-How Will You Overcome Fear?
Do you now believe overcoming fear with faith is possible?
Fear can spring up from several sources; past rejection, past failure, disappointments, fear of the future, unpleasant experiences, etc.
But you know what? It no longer has to overcome you!
Decide now to use the tips you’ve just learned, and gradually fear will begin to subside till all your fear files are nowhere to be found.
