Messy financial situations like maxxed out credit cards, preforclosing on your house, or debt that is more than your annual salary can make us anxious as we wonder where the money to deal with these situations is likely to come from.

I know this because I’ve been at that point before, I’ve been in debt almost more than my annual salary so I know the pain that comes with it.

However, the Bible reminds us that God cares about us, and if we ask him for grace and wisdom, he will always provide a way.

Money is essential to your well-being as a Christian, as it plays a crucial role in your daily life. However, trusting God with your finances keeps you in line with his purpose.

Financial trust in God is a matter of spiritual alignment. That’s why he said in Matthew 6:24, “You cannot serve God and Money.”

Trusting God with your finances shows you have faith in him, which ultimately influences how you treat money.

Trusting God means you will manage money with his principles in mind. You make decisions with integrity. You give generously, knowing that God will bless you as you also seek his wisdom in all financial dealings.

To overcome financial fear and anxiety, it’s important to pray and meditate over scriptures that can bring peace and calm financial storms.

Believe God when he tells us in Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your request to God. And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

We see it clearly in the principle of giving as it represents an act of faith, specifically in tithing and generosity.

Malachi 3:10 tells us what God will do if we tithe (read more about tithing and whether or not it’s required of Christians here).

We are also urged to give freely to those in need, just like it says in 2 Corinthians 9:6-7.

Pray daily prayers for financial breakthrough, as prayer is a tool you can use to align your heart with God’s will and seek his guidance in financial matters.

Give thanks for all he has done and what he will do, surrender your financial worries, and present your requests to him in prayers.

In practical terms, you can budget with faith and wisdom. When you budget well, you manage resources wisely and keep faith as the foundation for all financial decisions.

Faith in budgeting includes tithing, prioritizing needs over wants, and trusting God in every financial planning. Also, save and invest with a biblical mindset. Save money with purpose, give generously, and invest ethically.

I heard a story of a woman who was struggling heavily with debt.

And she prayed about her situation and faithfully tithed. I know this seems deep, and you might be asking, Should you pay your tithe when you’re in debt? However, she tithed despite her debt.

One day, she got a letter from one of her creditors telling her that her debt had been waived due to an internal accounting decision. Sounds magical, but that was her reality. God intervened, and he can intervene for you, too.

Faith is a key element to have even when you’re faced with financial hardship. Because even if God wants to send you a miracle, without your faith, you could short-circuit the working of his power in your life for a miracle.

Someone told me a story of a single mother who lost her job, and she had no means of feeding her children.

Dear Father, I come to you today acknowledging my inadequacies. Father, I surrender all my financial worries and burdens to you. I lay them down at your feet.

You’re Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides. I trust that you are the owner of all things, and you will provide all that I need according to your riches in glory.

Dear Lord, I confess that I have fears, doubts, and anxiety about my finances, but Lord, I cast all of my concerns to you. Take control. I know you care for me, and you have good plans for me.

Help me depend on you before I make any financial decision.

Father, help me to be a good steward of your resources and all that you have entrusted to me.

Guide me and give me the wisdom I need to be disciplined with my budgeting, help me to live within my means, give me a generous heart, and help me to be content.

In all I do, help me seek your kingdom first, even when it seems difficult, remind me of your faithfulness and strength my faith, do not let fear, anxiety, and worry consume me. Grant me your everlasting peace.
