10 Positive Christian Affirmations Journaling Prompts

Why are we ok saying things to and about ourselves that we would never say to someone else?

I know I’ve uttered statements about myself that I wouldn’t dream of saying to another person.

It’s mind-boggling to think about how comfortable we are berating ourselves but for some reason, speaking positive affirmations over our lives seems…well, almost awkward.

And yet having a heart of gratitude and positivity can work wonders in transforming our mood and renewing our minds.

If you’ve been struggling with worry, anxiety, and depression, and talking down to yourself is second nature, it’s time to deploy some biblical affirmation soldiers deep into our minds so we can win this battle once and for all.

We’ll be exploring:
– What positive Christan affirmations are
– Why you should use them
– Whether or not affirmations are sinful
– How they have helped me
– 10 positive affirmation journaling prompts for Christian women you can say, write, & read whenever you need to

– What Are Positive Affirmations?

So what are positive affirmations?

Positive affirmations are a powerful tool for improving your life and boosting your mental health.

They are a set of positive phrases that you would say to yourself throughout the day.
Daily affirmations are an excellent way to start the day with positive thoughts and help you deal with whatever life throws at you!

Examples of positive affirmations would be:

I am worthy.
I am enough.
I am beautiful.
I am smart.
I am kind.
I am strong.
I am a warrior.
I am unique.
I am loved.

And while there is nothing inherently wrong with these statements, for me personally, they are a little too me-centered, if you know what I mean.

That’s why I prefer positive Christian affirmations which is what we are going to talk about next.

– What Are Positive Christian Affirmations?

Like I said saying some generalized positive affirmations are okay, I guess but to be honest they don’t really work for me.

Why?

They are a little self-centered. As Christian women, we are called to be less about self and more about Christ. So just saying over and over again how wonderful I am isn’t really a goal I have personally so I prefer to rely on biblical affirmations.

Biblical affirmations are positive thoughts and sayings based on God’s word.

This is not about me having faith in myself but faith in God and what He says. What are the positive traits that God says I have?

What does Christ say about His creation?

And even more than that, what are the amazing characteristics of God that I can meditate on and place my trust in when life is getting crazy?

Those are the affirmations I want to repeat, not ones that are all about me. Know what I mean?

– Why Do Positive Affirmations Work Anyway?

The power of daily affirmations is undeniable, but how do they work?

Our brain is more powerful than we may even realize at times.

Repetition creates neural pathways in our brains. The more we say negative things to ourselves (or have other people say negative things to us) the more we believe them.

In the same way, the more we say positive things to ourselves, the more these beliefs take hold of our brains and become our normal way of thinking.

So considering this, take a second to imagine how life-changing it would be if you changed the tone in which you speak to yourself.

How much happier would you be if your internal dialogue was a reflection of positive biblical affirmations?

How much more joy would you have if you saw yourself the way God sees you and not the way the world wants you to see yourself?

Many people find that repeating positive scripturally based statements over and over and genuinely believing them can literally change your life.

And I totally agree with them!

If you say things about yourself like, “You are stupid and nobody likes you”… Stop It!

Start replacing these negative statements (that come from the enemy) with affirmations that come from your Creator…I’ll share some ideas of what you can say later but you can start with this one…

Start looking in the mirror every day and telling yourself that you are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

It may feel awkward or seem silly at first but I challenge you to start today. Give it a few days, let it become a habit.

Start creating new neural pathways. I guarantee you that after a few weeks, you will see the confidence radiating from yourself because you believe what God’s word has to say about you.

The real growth comes from believing in the things you say to yourself and removing the negativity that lives inside your own mind.

– Why Positive Christian Affirmations Feel Weird

It’s going to be a struggle to start saying kind things about yourself. I know it sounds crazy but it’s true. Saying negative things to ourselves is second nature but speaking positively about ourselves is alien.

But I assure you, once you do, your outlook on life will begin to change gradually (notice I didn’t say your current situation will change but just how you look at it).

Because you will begin to trust God to get you through whatever hardship or problem you are currently dealing with.

– But Wait Aren’t Positive Affirmations Sinful?

It’s funny that people ask if positive affirmations are sinful but rarely think anything about the negative things that we say to ourselves day in and day out. It’s like we think we have a right to talk badly about ourselves because we aren’t “hurting anyone”.

But the moment we start saying good things to ourselves we need to check and make sure that’s okay…nevertheless, this is still a valid question.

The truth is like I mentioned before positive affirmations can start to sound really self-absorbed after a while.

I am beautiful.

I am strong.

I am wonderful…etc.

I think focusing so much on yourself and not on the power of God working through you is territory I don’t want to encourage you to go into.

I have several goals for you when using positive biblical affirmations.

I want you to focus on God and His amazing characteristics and the fact that He is your father.

I want you to see that God thinks you are lovable & valuable because you were made by Him and in His image.

And it’s important that we remember that other people were made in His image too…even if they aren’t kind or patient.

I also want you to see that the negative things that you say about yourself are lies from the enemy and that you shouldn’t believe them.

So looking at positive Christian affirmations as a way to see God as He really is, see ourselves as God sees us, and as a way to see others as God sees them makes affirmations less about self and more of an act of worship.

– How To Start Coming Up With Positive Christian Affirmations

Perhaps you’re on board with using positive Christian affirmations to overcome challenges like depression and anxiety but you don’t know where to start.

Try these 3 things:

1) Give Thanks Daily

Each day, make it a point to find three things to be thankful for. One easy way to start is by counting your blessings.

They can be simple: I am thankful that I have shelter, I have a heartbeat, I have one more day to find something to be thankful for.

Just continue to thank God daily for each of these things, and remember that He has a plan for you in His kingdom!

A heart of gratitude for the things He’s done will take you much farther when it comes to bigger challenges and blessings alike.

2) Write Positive Christian Affirmations In Your Journal

Write down positive affirmations in your prayer or Bible study journals. This can be lists of things you are grateful for in your life or positive statements about yourself that come from God’s own mouth!

It is always beneficial to write down all of the wonderful things that God has done for us. When you do this every night before bed, you will start noticing more blessings than you normally would.  And as a bonus, here are some more Christian journaling prompts you can use to strengthen your faith!

3) Get Creative & Color Positive Affirmations

Coloring is all the rage right now and I don’t mean for children. Adult coloring is super popular and it is great for boosting your mental health.

Shading positive Christian affirmation coloring sheets (I have some coloring sheets in my store if you want to take a look) is just one more way to download these Christian affirmations even further into your brain!

So now we get to the really powerful stuff. What you can do with these scriptures (all from the NIV version) is create positive affirmation journaling prompts based on the promises of God.

Let’s get started…

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Positive affirmation: Jesus gives me joy in all circumstances!

2)Bible Verse: Isaiah 54:10

10 Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed, says the Lord, who has compassion on you.

Positive Affirmation: God will never stop loving me!

3) Bible Verse: 2 Timothy 1:7

7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

Positive Affirmation: God’s Spirit takes away fear! God’s Spirit gives me power, love, and discipline!

4) Bible Verse: Jeremiah 17:7 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.

Positive Affirmation: Trusting in God showers blessings on me!

5) Bible Verse: Isaiah 40:29-31 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Positive Affirmation: Leaning on God gives me strength even when I’m weak.

6) Bible Verse: Luke 12:24 Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!

Positive Affirmation: God sees and values me!

7) Bible Verse: John 14:27: 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Positive Affirmation: Jesus gives me peace! I shouldn’t live a life of fear and anxiety.

8) Bible Verse: I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. … My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. ~ John 10:14-15, 27 NIV

Positive Affirmation: If I hear Jesus’ voice, I know that I belong to Him.

9) Bible Verse: Isaiah 46:4

Even to your old age and gray hairs
I am he, I am he who will sustain you.
I have made you and I will carry you;
I will sustain you and I will rescue you

Positive Affirmation: God will always care for me no matter what!

10)Bible Verse: Philippians 4:13

Positive Affirmation: With Christ, there’s nothing I can’t do.
