Why Use A Planner Or Bullet Journal
Does anyone else geek out over planners?
I’m not sure what it is.
With me being so scatterbrained, perhaps it’s the idea of having all of my thoughts, plans, goals, and dreams neatly tucked away in between brightly colored pages & organized boxes.
Whatever the reason, I am instantly drawn to a row of planners when I go to Target or whenever I see them online (esp. Etsy).
Do you use a planner or a bullet journal?
Perhaps you don’t. If not, let me school you on why you should use a planner and some of its health benefits. These are 7 of the main life-changing benefits that I’ve seen since I started using digital planners!
But of course you can use whichever kind of planner that works best for you. So let’s dive right in!
Why You Should Use A Planner: Their Life-Changing Benefits
1) Mind Declutter: Planners relieve your brain of having to remember stuff
Do you struggle to keep all of your schedules, meetings, & goal appointments organized?
I recently missed a work meeting.
Why? Because I didn’t- write it down in my planner or set a reminder on my phone.
It’s too hard to rely on your brain to remember everything that’s going on in your life, or to keep track of the goals you want to accomplish.
Let’s say you have a goal of losing 50 pounds by July.
In order to achieve this goal, there are a lot of plans and ideas that you will dream up & you will need a place to write down all of those plans & ideas.
You don’t want to resort to writing your ideas down on random sticky notes now do you?
A planner helps you have one centralized location for all of your brilliant ideas. Otherwise, you will forget the ideas of your Eureka moments will be for naught.
So use a planner so you can keep your memory out of the equation.
2) Planners keep you beautifully organized
Okay, going back to our earlier example, say you have an idea about a new diet/lifestyle change or about a workout that will fit into your schedule.
You look around for paper to write the idea on a sticky note and throw it in the bottom of your purse lovingly place it in a pocket purse.
Well, I don’t know about your purse but my purse houses an invisible monster who loves to eat sticky notes, as a snack (receipts too incidentally.)
So now (if you have a purse monster ) you can’t find that note anywhere. And now your brilliant, idea you don’t remember, at all.
That’s why you need a planner. This time management & planning tool takes your memory out of the equation and keeps all of your thoughts, schedules, and plans beautifully organized and in one place.

3) Planners Keep You Productive.
One of the best things about planners is that they keep you productive.
There’s a huge difference between being busy (just doing stuff and things) and being productive.
A planner allows you to spend your time more effectively.
I used to be really bad about procrastinating important tasks.
But once you start using a daily or weekly planner, your important activities will be scheduled and taken care of.
When you have a goal of let’s say, writing a book, being busy toward that goal would be like finding the perfect journal or notebook, trying out different pens, researching apps that writers prefer.
All of that is nice but you’re not producing anything.
In a planner, you can write down your laser-focused SMART goals like I talk about in this post that will bring you one step closer to the completion of your goal. In your planner, you might schedule a time to complete the outlines for chapters 1-5.
Once you’ve finished that then you can truly say that you have done something productive.
And that is in part thanks to you using your planner to write your goals down and the tasks you need to complete in order to achieve those goals.
4) Improved Mental Health: Planners help you avoid unnecessary stress and anxiety
Remember that work meeting I mentioned missing? Don’t you think I was a little stressed out because I missed it?
Don’t you think I was a little worried that I would get in trouble for not being there?
Clearly using a planner or bullet journal could have helped me avoid this unnecessary stress.
5) Improved Physical Health: Plan your workouts and your meals
Using a planner can help you improve your physical health as well as your mental health.
How you ask? One of the biggest pitfalls of weight loss is not planning your meals.
When I don’t meal plan or meal prep I just grabbed something to eat at a restaurant or something from the freezer…and neither one hooks me up with anything healthy.
But you can use a meal planner to plan out all of your meals for the week so this problem won’t happen. I have a digital fitness & meal planner here that you can also use to plan your meals, beauty and spa treatments, your workouts, and so much more…check it out!
6) Improve your financial health: Manage your money with a planner
A planner or bullet journal is a great way to track your finances. Use your planner to budget, track your debt, income, investments, and more.
I have a digital financial planner that I use to track all of my money decisions. I plan (pun intended) to create one for you guys to so you can start to build wealth too!

7) Improve your spiritual health: spend more time with Jesus
It’s so easy to put off spending more time with God in our busy lives but with a planner, you can schedule that time just like you would any other activity!
Spending time with Jesus is, of course, good for our spiritual health but of course, it’s benefits your mental and emotional health too!
This printable Bible study journal has a calendar that you can use to plan your prayer and Bible study time. But you can of course use any planner you like.
Just consider it a meeting with God!
Do you believe in the power of planners?
Perhaps I have convinced you why you should use planners & how powerful and life-changing they are. I don’t care if you use Google calendar, Trello, an app, a printable planner, a bullet journal, or a regular notebook.
Whatever you use will help you organize your life in ways you never thought possible and your life will truly begin to change. I promise!
