Can Christian Women Practice Witchcraft & Still Please God?

I am the queen of going down rabbit holes.

Have you ever started typing a phrase into Google or Pinterest and had a phrase pop up and you just had to know what that phrase was about?

That’s what happened to me on Pinterest.

I was trying to type in Christian women into Pinterest. As I was typing, one of the suggested terms that popped up was Christian witch.

I thought “Wait, what? That’s not a thing. Surely, no Christians practice witchcraft.”

Turns out I was wrong.

Christian witchcraft is a thing.

Except it’s not really a thing and yet some people sincerely believe that it is.

I truly wanted to cry while I was writing this post.

I had no idea that Christian witches existed although I should have known because the devil never rests and is always looking to deceive as many people as possible.

I’m so heartbroken that women are falling into this trap thinking that they are walking with God when they are not. Maybe I should word this post in a nicer way but I can’t sugarcoat this.

As I strive to become more like a Proverbs 31 woman, it’s imperative to “speak with wisdom and faithful instruction”.

I will not mince words.

There is no such thing as a Christ-follower who practices witchcraft.

This does not exist.

Yes, there are those who have been deceived into thinking they are Christians and witches but my dear ladies, please know that that you cannot be both.

It is just not possible.

I know I will be accused of being judgmental.

I agree with you…to an extent. I am making a judgment call on this and I’m ok with that. I’m claiming that I am perfect or that I do no wrong in my life.

That’s completely untrue.

However, Christians, as imperfect as they are, are supposed to lovingly warn others if they are going down the wrong path

And the Bible couldn’t be any clearer on this subject in both the Old and New Testament.

And I haven’t seen any other blog posts speaking out against Christian witchcraft on Pinterest so it needs to be said.

I’ll admit that this has upset me. I’m not doing the normal friendly introduction into the post.  I guess this even shocked me who is by nature ( or by experience not sure which) skeptical about many things.

There are some of you who have already gone down this path and won’t receive this with the true heartache in which it was written but I’ve read comments from some who are unsure and don’t know if they should go down this road.

I urge you with all the love I have in my heart to stay far away from witchcraft.

There are numerous ex witches and occultists who are now Christians who would lovingly tell you the same thing.

There’s nothing Godly about it.

There’s nothing holy about it.

God is not calling you to a life of witchcraft.

That is not a thing.

That’s called a deception.

If you feel it is a thing, please show evidence of this using the word of God.

When you feel “called” to do something that God through the Bible has clearly spoken out against more than once (although once is enough) then that is not a calling from the Lord.

Why would He call you to do or be involved in something that he said would consign you to the Lake of Fire:

Revelation 21:8

8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.

No, y’all, he just wouldn’t. Not a thing and don’t believe anyone who tells’s you it is a thing that God would do.

Would God contradict his own word? Of course not!

There’s no amount of explaining or justifying that can be done to make this right in God’s eyes and His eyes are the only ones that matter.

It doesn’t matter how nice the Christian witch seems or how sincerely written their blog posts are.

Christian witchcraft is still not a thing.

I urge you, that if you are leaning towards this way of life and you’ve read some articles about Christian witchcraft but you’re still not sure what to do, listen very carefully to the things that are said about witchcraft in the Bible and those that practice it.

None of its good.

None.

  • Acts 19:17-20

17 When this became known to the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus, they were all seized with fear, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor. 18 Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed what they had done. 19 A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas. 20 In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power.
  • Isaiah 8:19-22

19 When someone tells you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? • Acts 8:9-13

9 Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great, 10 and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, “This man is rightly called the Great Power of God.” 11 They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his sorcery. 12 But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 13 Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw.
  • Deuteronomy 18:10-14

10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD; because of these same detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. 13 You must be blameless before the LORD your God. 14 The nations you will dispossess listen to those who practice sorcery or divination. But as for you, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do so.
  • Isaiah 47:8-14

8 “Now then, listen, you lover of pleasure, lounging in your security and saying to yourself, ‘I am, and there is none besides me. I will never be a widow or suffer the loss of children.’ 9 Both of these will overtake you in a moment, on a single day: loss of children and widowhood. They will come upon you in full measure, in spite of your many sorceries and all your potent spells. 10 You have trusted in your wickedness and have said, ‘No one sees me.’ Your wisdom and knowledge mislead you when you say to yourself, ‘I am, and there is none besides me.’ 11 Disaster will come upon you, and you will not know how to conjure it away. A calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off with a ransom; a catastrophe you cannot foresee will suddenly come upon you.

12 “Keep on, then, with your magic spells and with your many sorceries, which you have labored at since childhood. Perhaps you will succeed, perhaps you will cause terror. 13 All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you. 14 Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves from the power of the flame. These are not coals for warmth; this is not a fire to sit by.

I’ve shown you what the bible has to say about witchcraft. If you believe God is ok with witchcraft please show us that with supporting scripture.

Our feelings are not evidence.

How witches were treated throughout history is not evidence.

The way that we learn about what is pleasing to God is mainly through his word (and also through prayer).

If we say that God is okay with something that he clearly speaks against over and over, then what evidence can be used to support this belief?

Our feelings betray us.

Is it your heart telling you that it’s okay despite all scriptural evidence to the contrary?

Jeremiah 17:9 says “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?”

We aren’t supposed to listen to our hearts to determine what’s right and wrong. Our hearts are not evidence of whether or not witchcraft (or anything else) is right.

Why I’m Writing This

I’m not coming to you as someone who thinks they are perfect. I’m not coming to you as someone who is looking down on you or who thinks they are better than you.

Far from it.

I can look at some of those passages that have lists of sins in them and see that some of my own sins are listed right there along with witchcraft.

My only purpose with this post is to lovingly warn people about this dangerous trend because I don’t see a lot of people doing it. I don’t even think a lot of Christians even know that this is a growing belief in the Christian world.

I certainly didn’t so I just wanted to encourage the Christians who are on the fence and aren’t sure if this is what they should do.

Please prayerfully read these scriptures.

Let Him lead you to understand what He is plainly telling you.

Thank you for reading and God bless.

The Bible is our faithful guide, leading us well. And gosh, I had no clue Christian witchcraft was a “thing” either. Time to dig into those pages of His faithful Word.

Yes Kristi you are right! The Bible is our guide and it’s far past time to see what He has to say on this and many other issues!

Thank you for sharing this and God’s Word! I had never heard of Christian witchcraft before. I pray this is read by those who need to hear this truth.

I am so happy you wrote on this! I was once on Pinterest and saw a pin for Christian Witchcraft. I was like “SAY WHAT?!” I clicked on it because I wanted to know if this was for realz and it was. As someone who walked out on new age/occult stuff when I was teen this stuff needs to be addressed in truth and love. And you nailed it! Thank you for taking the time to write it. I’ve also pinned it and hope people on the fence will read it.

Thank you so much Melissa for your comment and for sharing! Your reaction was the same as mine. I couldn’t really believe it but I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that the enemy would use anything and everything to deceive people. I’m so glad that you have found the truth! Please pray for it to reach more people and help them realize just how dangerous this is.

While I obviously agree with scripture and a majority of your post, I thought it interesting that you never defined witchcraft. Witchcraft has had a very negative connotation since Kramer but at its root it is the practice of doing things with intention. When you pray with the intention of thanking the Lord for all he has provided or meditate on scripture, by definition, that is witchcraft. Even communion could be defined as witchcraft since it is the metaphorical drinking of his blood and eating of his flesh designed for us to remember his sacrifice for us. When you research the history of the word, the “witchcraft” the bible refers to deals with drug administering, trying to predict or control the future, or trying to communicate with or raise the dead. While you may want to consider doing some of your own research or adding this to your piece, I really enjoyed reading this and thank you for taking the time to write it!

    Nicky - 04/24/2020 Reply

I didn’t think to define witchcraft honestly because I guess I didn’t think I needed to. However, when I have discussions with people one of the first things that I try to do is define our terms to make sure we are on the same page so that’s a good point that you’ve made.

When you look up the definition of witchcraft it is said to be the practice of magic, especially black magic, the use of spells. Now I believe this is a good base definition but it encompasses many different things. For example, I would consider the law of attraction and “The Secret” to be forms of witchcraft based on my knowledge of it. I’m sure many people would disagree and say I was totally wrong.

I don’t agree with the idea that communion or praying is a form of witchcraft. That’s because in my view witchcraft (or the occult which means secret) is dealing with dark spirits or demonic spirits that will sometimes present themselves as spirits of light until you try to get away from them and then they start to show their true colors. When you are participating in communion or praying you are engaging in an act of unity with the Holy Spirit.

The dividing line when dealing with the spiritual realm, the realm in which both prayer and spells reside, is the origin of the spirit. Is the spirit from God or is the spirit an evil spirit? I don’t believe witchcraft deals with any spirits that are from God even if the spirit presents itself as benevolent at first.

I’m intrigued by your comment about witchcraft in the bible referring to drug administering. I have not heard this before and if you have any references to that I would love to see them.

Thank you so much for stopping by and adding intelligent commentary to this important discussion. I appreciate you!

Agree to disagree. It is all about intention. I grew up Catholic and was even an altar server. I grew away from the church because I wanted to practice my faith solo and felt like I wasn’t getting anything out of church anymore. So I discovered Christian witchcraft. How is prayer any different than spells. I am asking God for help and assistance in both with words. Spells usually are rhyming sentences like a poem and ask for a certain intention (protecting myself, healing others, etc). Very similar to prayers or verses in the Gospel, I am asking for God’s help with protection, healing, and assistance in work and relationships. That is all a spell is, it doesn’t even have to rhyme or include anything else. Occasionally witches use elements like herbs, candles, and incense. Like lighting a candle for others, I set positive intentions with candles. Just like how the priest uses incense and water to cleanse, so do I. I thank God for nature and feel more in tune with higher vibrations and God when working with natural elements he gave us like herbs, flowers and natural water. I still pray and read the bible as well, but when I want to do a ritual or something more then I do a spell. To me it makes my faith seem more real and concrete by practicing it physically. It is also personal to me so it makes me feel closer to God and have a more personal relationship.

Just like how there can bad Christians, there are bad witches. Just because people go to church, doesn’t mean they act Christian like outside of church or towards others. Just because people practice their religion differently, doesn’t make it evil. I think is what the Bible is talking about, those who work with the devil. Witchcraft has changed and expanded over the course of the thousands of years when the Bible was originally written. Though there are some who don’t mind harming others in hexes and curse causing others bad luck and harm and working with demons. Also I wouldn’t lump wiccans who practice in as being bad either because their whole mantra is not harming others. Don’t jump to conclusions or generalizations, witchcraft is very different and complex.

    Nicky - 08/08/2020 Reply

Thank you for being civil with your comments. I can’t tell by your comment if you’re disagreeing that the bible condemns witchcraft or if you’re saying God said it was wrong back then but it’s not now. If you’re saying that God doesn’t convey to us through the bible that we shouldn’t mess with witcraft then can you provide any scriptural evidence of this? We cannot go by our feelings to determine right and wrong.

If you’re saying that He did at one time say it was wrong but He’s changed His mind, do you have any scriptural evidence of this change?

I honestly have loved hearing the different stories that people have shared in the comments on this post. My concern though is that everyone that disagrees with my post is basing their objections on feelings, experiences, and stories and not basing it on the Word of God. It’s imperative that we determine what’s right and wrong after careful study of His word and not on shifting cultural norms and opinions.

Hannah - 09/01/2020 Reply

witchcraft isn’t always casting harmful spells on people. it’s as simple as studying plants and rocks and the energies connected with them. it’s being one with nature and you can recognize God in how it was created. i’m a green witch, i study plants and healing energy of the earth. i also have a personal relationship with God. i thank him for everything. i just recognize the energies connected with nature. respectfully i think you should do more research on different kinds of witchcraft before you lump it all together

    Nicky - 09/04/2020 Reply

I understand that you thank Him for everything that is great! But even still we still have to be mindful of what the scriptures say. God does not make a distinction between different kinds of witches. He doesn’t say this kind of witchcraft is bad but this kind is not okay. He lumps it all together and says don’t do it so that’s what I’m basing my blog post on. Soley on the word of God and not the words of man. In order to please God, this is what we must do. I urge you to look at the scriptures provided here and see which scriptures you think don’t apply to green witches.

      Elizabeth - 11/21/2020 Reply

When witchcraft is talked about in the bible, it only mentions those who work with spirits and cast spells and seek knowledge that they’re not supposed to. Meanings change over time and if we can’t look at what what witchcraft was back then and what people are practicing now and understand that they are different then we could practically find a way to condemn everyone. Someone studying the gifts God gives to us isn’t a sin. If we disconnected the word ‘witchcraft’ from the action of it, then no one would think twice about it.

        Nicky - 11/22/2020 Reply

How are they different? How has that been proven? I understand that people might believe that they aren’t dealing with spirits but I believe based on my research that they are being deceived and that witchcraft today is no different from witchcraft 2,000 years ago. Witchcraft is not a gift that God would give anyone as witchcraft is against his will. I urge you to study His word and let Him show you what is true. Thank you for your comments.

Can we please have an open discussion sometime? I consider myself a Christian Witch and I think you are being misled on what many of us actually practice. Most of us (not all) don’t actually practice the things banned by the Bible. I’d like to broaden your mind to what most of us actually do practice. Witch, and sorcerer isn’t really the correct term based on biblical interpretation. I’d say I am actually more of a Mystical Christian. Please reach out to me. I’d love to chat! 4796520113 is my cell number that will be the easiest way to reach me

Hi Beth, thanks for your comments :). Sure, I would be open to having an open discussion with you about this as long as it’s truly open on both of our parts and not us talking at each other. Know what I mean?

Elizabeth - 05/25/2021 Reply

If it doesn’t cause you to doubt your faith in Christ or to view it as some sort of idol then I don’t see anything wrong with it. The Bible does say not to do it but in the context of that exact thing, not letting it pull you away from your first love and the one true God.

    Nicky - 06/11/2021 Reply

Hi Elizabeth! Thanks for your comments. Please, I would urge you to read the passages that I presented in this post. The Bible does say over and over that witchcraft, the occult and being involved in them are sinful. Please don’t be deceived…I only wrote this blog post because I care about people being lead astray in this regard!

Nicky thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have said everything here in this blog that I have wanted to say for so long about this subject. There are no two ways around it, God’s Word is explicitly agains witchcraft, sorcery, and anything that dabbles in it, or remotlely around it. If the ladies from all these previous comments took the time to pull away from this for a time and study the Word of God forward and backward, and researching in the Greek and Hebrew, and giving themselves over to prayer, fasting, and seeking the Holy Spirit (not a ghost, the third person of the Trinity), they would be able to know and see freedom in Christ Jesus. God is no respector of persons and if you seek him diligently for truth he will reveal it. I myslef, at the age of 10 began to dabble in witchcraft to deal with the pain of my parents divorce. I don’t know who was praying for me, but someone was, and I gave my heart to Jesus at the age of 13. And from that time until now I have know these things are demonic, and against the Word of God. Let us be the two that gather together spiritually to pray for the ladies in the previous comments!! I wish we could meet and talk. To GOD BE THE GLORY, thank you again for writing so eloquently what I have longed to do. Corinne

Thank you so much for this awesome comment! It really means a lot! Yes, sadly, many women have fallen into this trap thinking they can be both a Christian and a witch, not realizing that they are being influenced by spirits to say this. It truly breaks my heart. I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one. Yes, let us be the two in agreement in praying for all of these ladies so they will know the truth while they still can! God bless you and your ministries!
