35 Journal Prompts For Forgiveness To Help Release Pain & Anger

If you’re struggling to forgive yourself or someone else, I know exactly how that feels.

Trust me…you’re not alone.

We all have a past, one that we’re sometimes not proud of… but how can we ever move past our guilt if we don’t forgive ourselves for our sins and past mistakes?

The same goes for when someone we love hurts us; even when (or if) they apologize, it can seem almost impossible to forgive them.

Because it feels like we are letting them off the hook or like they got away with something.

As Christian women, yes, the Bible tells us to love our neighbor as ourselves, but when someone deeply hurts us and we cannot seem to heal, how can we move on from this pain?

One powerful way is with journal prompts!

Let me tell you… journaling has been a powerful tool for exploring my feelings and working through my emotions.

Penning down my thoughts and feelings helped me understand them better and became a great way to release the negative energy that seemed trapped inside me.

Have you found yourself in this same situation? Well, it’s time to let go of your anger and forgive yourself and others.

Grab a pen and paper; let’s get through this journaling journey together!

-How Journaling Helps You Find Forgiveness

Like I said earlier, journaling can be a powerful tool for finding forgiveness.

When you journal, you are essentially giving yourself a safe and private space to express your thoughts and feelings.

This can be a great way to work through any anger or resentment that might be trapped inside of you.

Journaling can also help you understand why you’re feeling angry or resentful towards someone.

Often, we don’t take the time to examine our feelings properly, which can lead to holding onto anger and grudges for longer than necessary.

By journaling, you can explore your feelings in more depth and figure out why they’re causing you pain.

-Journal Prompts Can Also Help You To:

Gain clarity about the situation: Journaling can help you better understand the situation that led to you feeling angry or resentful. This can be especially helpful if you need to talk to someone about what happened.

Work through your emotions: Journaling can help you work through your emotions, leading to a more positive outlook on the situation.

✓ Forgive yourself: Often, we are our harshest critics, and it’s difficult to forgive ourselves for making mistakes. Journaling can help you to forgive yourself and move on from the situation.

Forgive others: With journaling, you can explore why somebody hurt you and how you’re feeling about it. This can help you to forgive them for their actions.

Express your thoughts and feelings: They can often fester and cause us pain when we bottle up our emotions. Journaling can be a safe and therapeutic space to express your thoughts and feelings. This can be helpful if you’re struggling to talk to someone about the situation.

✓ Let go of the past: When we’re angry or resentful, it’s often difficult to let go of the past. Journaling can help you reflect on the past and see it from a different perspective. This can help you to heal faster.

-Why It’s Important To Forgive Others

1) You’ll live a more joyful life.

You deserve to be at peace, and forgiving others plays an important part in living a free, healthy, and joyful life.

When you forgive others, you are letting go of the toxic anger that is occupying your mind and your heart. This can be helpful for both parties involved, and it can often lead to a more positive relationship (if you choose to continue the relationship)

2) It preserves your health.

Forgiving others is also beneficial for our health. Holding on to anger and resentment can be incredibly toxic for our bodies (source), and it can lead to a range of health problems, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and chronic pain.

3) It improves your relationships.

Forgiving others is an important part of maintaining healthy relationships. When we hold onto resentment, it can often cause damage to our relationships with those we love and want in our lives.

This is because we’re not able to have open and honest communication with the person we’re angry at.

Think about it: How often has unforgiveness cost you your relationship with others?

You see, the truth is; forgiving others is not going to be easy, but it is worth it.

The greatest blessing of forgiving others is that we are actually freeing ourselves and opening ourselves to new possibilities.

4) Jesus Commanded That We Forgive

In Luke 17:3-4 Jesus says:

“Pay attention to yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him, and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.”

Oh, yes, it is hard. There’s no doubt about that. But we are still told by our Savior to do it. That’s basically the only reason we need to have!

-Why It’s Important To Forgive Yourself

Forgiving yourself is just as vital as forgiving others. When we don’t forgive ourselves, it often leads to feelings of guilt.

This can be damaging to our mental health, and it can lead to a variety of problems, such as depression and anxiety.

Forgiveness is a powerful thing. No doubt, it is also one of the most liberating experiences a person can go through.

But forgiveness doesn’t just happen overnight. It’s a process that requires time, patience, and effort.

Forgiving yourself is also your ticket to a happy and more fulfilling life. You cannot change the past, but through journaling, you can release yourself from its hurt and pain and live life to the fullest.

-Should You Share Your Writings With Someone You Trust?

Sharing your writings with someone you trust can be a very beneficial and therapeutic process.

Here are some of the reasons why:

  • When we talk about our feelings and thoughts, it often helps us to make sense of them

  • It can help you process your emotions and see things differently.

  • It can provide you with a safe and supportive environment to express your thoughts and feelings.

  • It can also help you work through any emotions you might be feeling. This can be useful, especially if you struggle to understand why you feel angry or resentful.

If you’re considering sharing your writings with someone you trust, make sure they are supportive and understanding.

The person could take the form of a therapist, counselor, or a trusted family or friend.

Overall, it’s important to choose someone who will be there for you and not judge you.
