* Choose Your Binder Type *
First things first. Before you create your DIY life binder, you need to be sure what type of binder best suits your lifestyle. The options include:
Ring binder
This binder is easy to create and manage. It also offers flexibility as you can add or remove pages from the binder easily. It is also affordable.
However, you’ll need to physically carry it with you everywhere you go, which can be stressful, especially if it has a lot of pages.
Disc-bound
This binder is a classier upgrade to the ring binder. This binder allows you to customize page layouts. It is also more flexible and makes page adjustments easy.
Digital PDF Binder & Spreadsheets
If you want your binder stored on your phone or iPad, then a digital PDF binder is perfect for you. You can access it from anywhere, edit, adjust pages, and do everything without a physical paper and pen.
And don’t be afraid to be creative because a spreadsheet can work just as well as any binder. In fact, I might prefer a hybrid system where I use both a digital and a hard copy binder.
If you prefer the traditional pen and paper, then go for the ring binder. For a paper-free option, the digital PDF binder is a better choice.
* Create Sections for Every Area of Life *
Now that we’ve chosen binders, it is time to break the binder into sections that’ll reflect the different areas of your life you’re working on. You can have as many sections as possible, but we’ll be using 5 sections for this example.
Spiritual:
The spiritual section should contain everything needed for your walk with God, including your bible study, prayer, meditation, and reflection.
For this section, you can include printable inserts like a Faith Journal to track your spiritual prompts and reflections. You can also insert a prayer journal to keep track of your prayer points as you commit your goals and plans to God and ask for his guidance.
Personal Growth:
Your personal growth is very important, and you need to set goals and take intentional steps towards achieving them.
Under this section, you should include your 6-month goals, break them into micro-goals such as weekly or daily actions.
You also need to track your habits and actions. I’m designing a personal growth planner as well as a habit tracker that can help you set God-inspired goals and work towards achieving them.
Self-Care & Beauty:
A lot of us women take care of everyone but ourselves, which is why this section is very important. You need to include mini self-care routines, such as rest times, breaks, and stress-relief activities.
You also need a wellness tracker to guide healthy actions such as exercise, healthy eating, proper hydration, and sleep. My self-care planner is designed to help you achieve this.
Finances:
This section should include a savings tracker, budget planner, and spending logs to help track your spending, pay off debts, tie up loose ends, and help you create a healthy financial life.
A printable or digital Budget Planner can help you track everything connected to your finances.
Organization:
Create a section to help you stay organized from day to day, including to-do lists, checklists for decluttering, and daily routines.
Including this section in your binder helps to reduce mental strain and ease your mind.
* Add Tools That Make Your Life Easier *
The secret to a DIY life binder that really yields results is including helpful tools in every section.
I designed some digital products to help women build the most effective binders, including:
- The Faith/Prayer Journal that goes into your spiritual section.
- The Personal Growth planner (coming soon) to stay on top of your personal goals.
- The Budget Planner for your financial section.
- The Self-care Planner to prioritize ‘You’ and your wellness.
Get a copy of these planners by clicking the links above and printing them for your binders with ease.
* Maintain Your Binder for Consistency *
You need to update your binder as you go. When you make changes, update the relevant sections, add more goals, celebrate wins, and move on. I have a habit of overthinking the binders that I create.
I want them to be perfect from the beginning. But don’t be afraid to start off with a few printables and add to the binder as time goes on.
- Set aside 10 to 15 minutes every day or every week to update sections as you make progress.
- Review your progress, mistakes, and adjust your goals to meet you where you are.
- Stay motivated by celebrating every small win or achievement.

I’ve realized that the more interesting your binder is, the more inspired you are by using it. So, I’ll share some of my binder tips with you.
Add scriptures and motivational quotes at the beginning of different sections to motivate yourself.
Use color coding for different sections to make your binder visually appealing. Use your favorite colors.
Create an extra section and tag it ‘Brain dump’. Use this section to write down random thoughts or inspirations and go back to them later.
Use tabs or tags to help you flip between sections easily.
