Ever found yourself in a place where you feel like you need a deeper connection with God? Do you want to grow closer to God but it is proving difficult?

Maybe your mind drifts away a lot when you want to pray, or sometimes you just don’t have the words to say in the place of prayer.

If that describes your situation, you’re not alone! Many struggle with this too, especially Christian women, juggling their busy lives or those who have it hard due to ADHD.

The good news is, there’s a simple and yet powerful tool you can leverage to strengthen your faith: journaling.

I will get a commission if you decide to buy from these links but I’m only recommending products that I feel confident about and from companies that I trust like Amazon and others. Now that we know the benefits of faith-based journaling, how about we start one? The best way to get the benefit of starting a Christian journal is to keep it simple.

You are not journaling to impress God, he understands your simplicity. Start with short entries; one sentence a day is a good way to start.

There is no must-follow journal time, journaling is relative, so pick a time that works for you.

You can choose to journal early mornings, late at night before going to bed, or even during your daily quiet time. Or just journal whenever the mood strikes. There are no rules here.

Now, if you want, you can go crazy with buying journaling supplies. I definitely won’t judge because I’ve got quite the journaling and crafting collection myself.

But if you want to start with just a simple pen, you can do that too!

💡 Want a little extra help getting started? I created a faith-based printable journal designed to go hand-in-hand with these prompts! It includes space for reflection, prayer, and scripture notes—plus each page is thoughtfully guided so you never feel lost or overwhelmed. Perfect for quiet time with the Lord, even on your busiest days. Click here to learn more about this journal!

5. Reflect on a Bible verse that speaks to you today.

  • Some Bible verses speak directly about your situation, write about how it applies to your life.

6. If you could ask God one question right now, what would it be?

7. What does Faith mean to you?

  • In your own words define what faith means to you and how you can apply it to your daily living.

8. How do you hear God?

20. How do you want to grow spiritually in the next month?

  • Write out things you need to focus on in the next month that can help you grow spiritually.

21. What spiritual exercise do you want to improve on?

  • You might want to learn to fast better, or pray longer, or read your bible for longer, reflect on that and write them out.

One thing you should know about journaling is that authenticity is important. Don’t overthink it, be honest, keep it simple, and write whatever is in your heart.

Make sure you keep your journal in a visible area where you can easily access it, preferably your desk, Bible or nightstand.

Consider having a set time for journaling, if that’s your thing.

You can use your phone to set a reminder or prayer alarm. Take your time. Journaling is not about perfection. It’s about progress, so give yourself grace.

How about you start your journaling journey today? Just like I mentioned earlier, it doesn’t have to be complicated, you can keep it simple by starting with just one sentence today.

Your sophisticatedly crafted grammar is not what God is after; He isn’t looking for perfection, he just wants to feel your open heart.
