Brain Dump Bullet Journal

I don’t know about you but I have so many crazy thoughts, ideas, to-dos, and projects crammed into my head that doing a brain dump of everything going on up here is a must!

Having so much weighing on your mind can really affect your mental health.

If you can relate then you’ll want to join me in creating a brain dump in your journal too!

But the thing is, you don’t want to just do a brain dump with no rhyme or reason.

You want to organize your brain dump list so the list doesn’t drive you batty. So that’s what we are going to go over today plus so much more.

You can check out the table of contents below to see what else we’ll be going over.

Oh yeah, and this post contains affiliate links to great products that will help you in your health journey. I will get a commission if you decide to buy from these links but I’m only recommending products that I feel confident about.

– Materials You’ll Need To Get Started Journaling

So what are the things that you need in order to start a brain dump journal?

Honestly not much and that is the beauty of it. All you really need is a pin and a piece of paper.

However, if you want you could download a printable that’s super pretty and put it in a binder. You could go to Amazon and buy a bullet journal there.

Or you could use a digital brain dump journal. Just open a fresh new document on an app like Evernote or you could use Trello which helps to keep your thoughts nicely organized.

And it’s totally free. Whichever method you choose just make sure that you keep it private if that’s important to you.

– What Is A Brain Dump

The brain dump is a powerful thing, even though it is very simple to do. A brain dump is nothing more than getting all of those thoughts in your head out on “paper”.

Of course, I say “paper” because you might choose a digital journal. Anywho, brain dump journals work as a way to release all of the burdens from your mind.

Don’t let these thoughts weigh you down. Instead, let the paper bear your burden.

It can take anything you throw at it. After you’re done, you’ll be able to look through your worries, anxieties, and thoughts and try to make them make sense….

Or not.

There’s no rule that says your thoughts have to be logical.

In fact, if they aren’t logical all the better so you can look at them and be like “girl, these thoughts don’t even make sense so why am I even worrying about them?

Extra points if you turn your brain dump into a prayer.

Giving God your burdens is by far the best thing you can do!

– Benefits Of Dumping All Your Thoughts On “Paper”

Why do a brain dump in the first place? Because it’s super very therapeutic that’s why. It’s especially beneficial when you’re drowning in a sea of toxic emotions and negative thoughts.

What usually winds up happening is that you learn about limiting beliefs that you didn’t even know you had.

Maybe these thoughts and ideas were hidden deep in your heart and journaling uncovered them.

You never know what’s buried deep in your subconscious that could end up surfacing during a brain dump session.

Journaling can help bring you so much mental clarity in your life, or at the very least, figure out where most of your stress resides.

– How To Do A Brain Dump In Your Journal

So how do you even do a brain dump? It’s very simple, fortunately. No brain dump prompts needed!

Take your journal of choice whether it be a bullet journal a printable or a digital journal and just start writing down everything that’s on your mind.

Do you not second-guess yourself or edit yourself. Just let it flow. Don’t say to yourself “All this is stupid… I shouldn’t write this down”.

No, if you think it’s stupid you definitely should write it down.

“But what if I feel compelled to write something down that I don’t want anyone else to read?”

Well, guess what? You can ball it up and throw it away. You can shred it. If it’s a digital journal you can delete it.

You don’t have to keep your journal pages forever. After you’ve unburdened your heart on paper you can throw it away if you don’t want anyone else to see it.

There are no rules. So don’t create any that shouldn’t be there.

“But Nicky I need more structure!”

OK so for my rule-followers I’ve got you. If you need a little more structure in your brain dump journal you can have a list of topics you wanna cover.

And then each topic can get its own journal page where you can brain dump to your heart’s content. That way you’re still brain dumping but it has a little more organization to it.

– Benefits Of Using Paper Over A Digital Brain Dump Journal

While you can do the brain dump anywhere, including on a document on your computer, like we discussed , using a paper journal provides a few extra benefits. First of all, getting it all out on paper allows you to make sense of what you’re feeling.

That’s how it works in my experience but you may not feel the same which is fine. Plus, there’s just something about writing that has this therapeutic quality, where you remember more of what you are thinking.

Using a paper journal or journal printable makes you feel more connected to the entire journaling process.

Once you write everything down in your journal, you can then start sorting through it. Put thoughts into lists or categories, and choose what your priorities are.

Then use the brain dump pages as a way to make plans in the future.

– When to do a Brain Dump

There is no magical time for a brain dump, but here are some ideas when it might be time to do another one:

When you feel lost, confused, or like your life has no direction.

When you are under a lot of stress or your anxiety is worsening.

When you feel out of control in your life and you don’t know how to gain control back.

When you have been living a chaotic or disorganized life.

When your ideas are getting lost among the other thoughts.

When your to-do lists are too long, and you can’t keep up with them.

When you start becoming irritable or moody for no other good reason. When you have goals and dreams but don’t know how to achieve them. All of these are perfect times to start a stream of consciousness type journal.

And let’s keep it real. There’s so much negativity thrown at us each day with the news and social media and even the people around us that it would be beneficial to do a daily brain dump.

Think of it as a mind dump or detox. Plus the more you do it the less you’ll need to do it if that makes any sense.

If you purge your mind daily of any negative thoughts and feelings that you’re happy you’ll start to find that you have them less and less.

– Are you going to start a brain dump journal?

If you have thoughts and feelings that you need to untangle and figure out dim brain jumping is a great way to do it. Don’t walk around confused or wait till I’m by anxiety and fear. Use a brain dump Journal to sort out everything that you were feeling.

I truly believe that once you do you have so much mental clarity and inner peace. I’d love to hear how some of you benefit from using a brain dump journal. Please share with us in the comments how this journal has worked for you.
