35 Controversial Journaling Affirmations For Finances That Will Surprise You!

I must admit they make me a little queasy. I know saying things like “I attract money” are supposed to make me feel powerful but for me, it does just the opposite.

Why is that, you ask?

Trust me, I will definitely explain why later.

I’ll also tell you:

  • What positive affirmations are
  • What financial affirmations are
  • What the law of attraction is
  • If affirmations can make you rich
  • Whether or not I’m against financial affirmations
  • What I use as my financial affirmations
  • 35 Financial affirmations with a twist

Oh yeah, and this post contains affiliate links to great products that will help you in your health journey. I will get a commission if you decide to buy from these links but I’m only recommending products that I feel confident about and from companies that I trust like Amazon and others. Please let me know if you have any questions.

– What Are Positive Affirmations?

Positive affirmations are short memorable statements that you say to yourself repeatedly throughout the day that are used to change your mindset over time.

These statements positively affirm or state as fact things that you would like to be true.

Examples of positive affirmations would be like I am loved, I can become whoever I want to be, I deserve good things, etc.

– What Are Positive Financial Or Money Affirmations?

So given the above definition, financial affirmations are simply affirmations that are used to affirm thoughts or beliefs about money that you wish to be true.

An example of a financial affirmation would be like I attract money.

Money will come into my life, I am worthy of wealth, and so on. Or you can be even more specific.

Say you want to buy a car. And not just any car but your dream car.

I’ve seen youtube videos claiming that someone attracted their dream car using positive affirmations and the Law of Attraction which I will discuss next.

– What Is The Law of Attraction?

I’m sure you’ve probably heard of the law of attraction but in case you haven’t let me explain it a little.

The law of attraction is the idea that you attract what you believe.

If you believe good things then good things will come to you.

If you believe bad and negative things, then you will attract negative events into your life. It’s all about your vibration or energy.

And if this sounds like some hippie-type stuff then yeah, you’re getting warm.

But it’s more sinister than any flower child.

The phrase and idea of the “law of attraction” was first coined by a chick named Helena Blavatsky.

Now because I’m such a nerd, I already knew who Helena Blavatsky was before I read that she was the first one to use the term.

However, if you don’t know her you can read all about her here

Here’s the Cliff Note’s version: She was basically an occultic evangelist who went all over the world in the late 1800s spreading the gospel of new age thought and Theosophy.

The ideas of the Law Of Attraction have been developed more and more over time and now it’s basically a mainstream concept.

But regardless of how mainstream it’s become, I have to say, ummm, I’m not feeling the Law Of Attraction.

I know I know…I sound super judgey which is of course a grave sin.

But I’m just being honest with you. Helena made no bones about who she was and I won’t either.

I’m not a fan of New Age thought and philosophies in general.

The overlap of New Age thought and the occult is too strong for me so I take a hard pass.

And LOA and positive affirmations as they currently stand rank high on the New Age scale for me.

– Can Affirmations Make You Rich?

Yeah yeah yeah so positive affirmations are new agey…so what? I still want to know if they will make me money.

Okay, I understand totally.

I mean you probably came to this post to be able to find out how to use positive financial affirmations to create abundance and wealth.

I’ll keep it real with you. It does seem like people who use the LOA gain wealth and material blessings.

I’ve seen it over and over again so who am I to doubt that it works.

I have my ideas as to why it works though and it’s just not for me nor do I encourage others to use it, even if it seems harmless and/or beneficial.

As I said, the crossover appeal of occultic ideas into new age ideas makes the Law Of Attraction and money affirmations a no for me, even if they do work.

– So Are You Against Financial Affirmations?

I basically answered this already but I am against affirmations in the way they are currently used.

Besides just the undergirding ideas inherent in LOA and affirmations, the affirmations I see seem very first-world focused (I say this as an American who loves her country so don’t come at me).

Yes, anyone from anywhere can use these principles. But money mantras like “I deserve wealth” or “I am worthy of riches” are very self-centered.

Who says that anyone deserves wealth? Why are you worthy of riches?

Is a little girl starving in a third-world country less worthy of riches than someone in a more developed nation?

Did people born into extreme poverty in Mexico or Brazil attract that poverty?

I mean, supposedly these are universal concepts, right?

So I guess citizens of a certain Eastern European country (that begins with a U) didn’t say enough affirmations and that’s why they are being forced to leave their homes due to war.

Or perhaps that’s all nonsense and the truth is no one deserves wealth.

Wealth is not a right or something that is owed to us.

God might bless me with wealth and if He does, I should be saying “thank you!” and not “I deserve it.”

You might be thinking that I’m mischaracterizing affirmations and the Law Of Attraction or that I don’t understand them.

Those are fair points.

And maybe my examples are hyperbolic and extreme.

I don’t mean to disparage anyone’s beliefs. But I am challenging people to think about these beliefs in a different way.

– How I Use “Positive Money Affirmations”

I’ve talked a lot about what I don’t believe but let’s discuss what I do believe.

Instead of using financial mantras, I believe more in following financial life principles that have stood the test of time.

These principles might come directly from the Bible but some are not.

I believe in leaning on the promises of God and not buying into what the “universe” says (because the universe is not a conscious being who says anything).

The idea that money comes from the universe is something that I can’t get with.

Now I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with having financial abundance and being good at money management.

I totally agree with that. But I don’t believe in attracting money to yourself.

I believe in having a good handle on your personal finance, saving money, being a good financial steward, having financial goals, reaching them, etc.

So basically manifesting money…no.

Having a good money mindset and improving your financial situation..yes, sign me up!

Okay so now let’s get into some of the financial affirmations that I believe in and hopefully, they will shed additional light on my position.

– Conclusion

I realize that I might have come off as harsh in this post but that wasn’t my purpose. My purpose was to voice my concerns with this idea of “I deserve good things” (wealth, a big house, a nice car) when that is not promised to us.

If we work smart, work consistently, and make wise choices then we definitely might become wealthy and be able to afford all of the things our hearts desire. But these things are not promised to us.

Bottom line?

I encourage people to have more of a spirit of gratitude.

Work hard.

Make good decisions.

Be grateful for whatever good things come your way and be aware of Who they came from instead of believing you just attracted them to yourself.
