5 Quick Ways To Relieve And Soothe Your Poor Miserable Stuffy Nose

Right now as I’m writing this I’m “suffering” with a stuffy nose.

I can deal with every other cold symptom pretty well but a stuffy nose thing is the worst ( probably has something to do with that whole needing to breathe to live thing).

Anywho, because I abhor having a blocked nose I’ve come up with some ways to make it more bearable at the very least.

If you’re reading this you’re probably desperate for something to try that will help so let me get on with it.

I’m not promising that you’ll have some grand reopening of your nasal passages after trying these methods but I do know that these methods are soothing.

In fact, my advice would be to try all of these methods at once.

This is what I call stacking. Taking several remedies and using them (or stacking them) all at once makes your relief that much surer.

And the best thing is, these remedies can be all-natural so you’re not over-medicating yourself.

This is what I do:

How To Relieve And Soothe Your Poor Miserable Stuffy Nose

1) Use Saline Spray

When you get a stuffy nose, using a saline spray (judiciously) can be your best friend. This spray in particular only has 3 ingredients which I love.  (Water, Sodium Chloride (salt), Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda)). And the reviews are pretty stellar.

Now what are the benefits of using a nasal spray, you might be wondering?

I don’t know about you but when my nose is stuffy, it becomes very dry to the point where I get nose bleeds.

A nasal spray will help moisturize and soothe you nasal passages and reduce irritation.

They also help to clean and open up the nasal passages as well, making it easier for you to breathe.

Keep reading to see how I use it.

2) Use A Decongestant

Now, of course, you can use a normal over the counter decongestant like Mucinex. They work perfectly fine and are safe… I use them all the time.

But if you are wanting a natural alternative, a good one to try is mullein.

You can take it in tea form (works well), in extract form (never tried it but the reviewers seemed to like it), or pill form (also works well).

Mullein is an herb that is used mainly for respiratory issues.

I used it when I have congestion in my sinuses or my chest and well let me just tell you it works. Just drink lots of water to help it work its magic.

3) Use A Humidifier

Humidifiers are so amazing when your nose is stuffy and irritated.

If you don’t know what they are, a humidifier is a little gadget that you set on your nightstand ( or wherever), pour water into, and cool vapors waft out.

They help moisturize your nasal passages and your skin.

Cool little bonus.

And just last night I was thinking man it would be cool is someone combined a humidifier and a diffuser into one so I could get the cooling, moisturizing benefits of the humidifier and the essential oil benefits of the diffuser.

Well lo and behold Amazon’s got me. Should have known.

Next, I’ll share which essential oil you should put in the humidiffuser or dimidifier or whatever you want to call the humidifier/diffuser hybrid.

My grandmother ( who insists that the s in Olbas is silent) thinks that Olba(s) can cure just about anything. Just for today though let’s use it for stuffy noses.

Olbas is an essential oil blend of essential oils, including peppermint, eucalyptus, cajeput, wintergreen, juniper and clove oils.

One of it’s many claims to fame is helping people breathe easier when they have a stuffy nose.

And since that’s the thing we are going for, you definitely want to get that. Plus it does other stuff like help with stomach pain, digestion, aches, chest congestion, and more.

Olbas is just a good all-around essential oil blend to have in the house at all times.

I’ve even carried it in my purse.

5) Cool Touch Kleenex:

Cool Touch Kleenex are tissues that are exactly what they sound like. They are cool to the touch and they feel great on your nose.

I literally use 2 or 3 boxes of tissues when I am sick so I definitely want to use tissues that won’t hurt or irritate my nose.

I’m not sure how they do it but every single tissue feels like it came out of the refrigerator about 10 or 15 minutes ago.

They aren’t too cold where they shock you. They are at just the right temperature to keep your nose as comfortable as possible.

How I use all of these things together to help me sleep better at night with a stuffy nose

So the goal, of course, is to help you breathe easier so you can fall asleep.

Doing any one of these things on their own would probably be helpful but doing them all at once is what really works for me.

Follow the steps in this order.

1) Take the nasal decongestant as instructed. Try to take it 3 to 4 hours before bed at least so it can be working in your system.

2) Use the saline spray as directed to help open your nasal passageways.

3) Put one drop of Olbas on a kleenex. Roll a corner of the tissue and gently place it in one nostril and breathe in the vapors. Do the same thing on the other side.

4) Now it’s time to use the Breathe-Right strip. Please use it as directed. One night I used one without washing and drying the outside of my nose. Needless to say, the strip did not stay on and was almost worthless.

5) Finally, turn on the humidifier and breathe in that cooling mist.

Now that you’ve got your Breathe-Right strip on the mist from the humidifier can really work its magic.

The strip helps hold your nostrils open wider so that more air can get in your airways and make breathing easier.

This also means that the mist from the humidifier can go further up your airways, soothing your nasal passages and helping combat congestion by breaking up the mucus that’s making it harder to breathe.

I coupled this with the saline spray and Olbas and not only did I sleep through the night but my stuffy nose was so much better the next day.

When I get a cold, I’m usually miserable with a severely stuffy nose for 3 or 4 days.

This time, I literally only had one day of somewhat severe congestion.

I really believe this stacking method help shorten and lessen the severity of your stuffy nose and my cold overall.

If you don’t have these products on hand and you don’t feel like running to the store to buy them, you can get any of these products from Amazon Prime and it can be there in 2 days and sometimes less.

Plus you can use these products many times, so they are a good investment to have around the house so that you can have them the next time you are sick (cause you know it’s gonna happen)

Please give this method a try and let me know what you think. Did it help relieve some of your misery?
